Kumagaya Onsen Without a Car: Shuttle, Train and Walking Routes

Reach Hanayu by timed shuttle, Yuraku no Sato from Ishihara Station, or Hareniwa from Kagohara. Compare walks, buses and the last ride back.

Kumagaya’s three main bathhouses are reachable without driving, but each has a different last mile. Hanayu Spa Resort has the easiest ride in and a fixed shuttle timetable. Yuraku no Sato is a 10-minute walk from Ishihara Station. Hareniwa is about 20 minutes from Kagohara Station, or a bus ride from Kumagaya followed by a short walk.

Hanayu: easiest if the shuttle fits your schedule

The free shuttle stops in front of the Daiei Kumagaya Building outside Kumagaya Station’s North Exit, between the second and third traffic lights toward National Route 17. The operator asks riders to arrive five minutes before departure and notes that traffic or local events can affect service.

Shuttle departures from the station are listed hourly from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Return buses start at 12:30 p.m., with the last one listed at 9:30 p.m. Hanayu stays open until 11 p.m., so you will need another way back if you bathe later.

The facility also lists a route bus from stop 2 at Kumagaya Station toward Inuzuka. Check the operator’s current timetable and stop details for your date; do not assume it runs frequently in the evening.

Yuraku no Sato: the simplest rail-and-walk option

Take the Chichibu Railway from Kumagaya to Ishihara Station, then walk about 10 minutes to the bathhouse. There is no facility shuttle to coordinate. That makes the route less sensitive to a missed departure, although the railway’s last train still matters—especially if you are using the bathhouse’s late closing time.

Kumagaya’s municipal Yuyu Bus network is another daytime possibility, but the city changed routes and timetables effective April 1, 2026. Check the current city transit page before building a plan around a specific stop or departure; older blog posts and timetable PDFs may no longer match.

Hareniwa: a longer walk, or a bus plus five minutes on foot

From JR Kagohara Station, Hareniwa is about 1.6 km away—roughly a 20-minute walk. The operator also lists a bus from Kumagaya Station toward Kagohara: about 35 minutes to Takayanagi, then a five-minute walk.

The walk is manageable in good weather, but summer heat, heavy rain, luggage or a late-night departure can change the calculation. The facility is open until 9 a.m. the next day, yet that does not mean public transport is running at every hour. If you plan to stay overnight, decide whether you will leave before the last train, wait for morning service or arrange a taxi. Bathing is also suspended from 2–5 a.m.

For timings rather than the route itself, see the Kumagaya late-night bath guide. If you have not chosen a facility yet, the day-bath comparison lays out how each one differs.
