Oboke and Iya Valley Without a Car: A Bus-and-Onsen Day Trip

Reach Iya Kazurabashi and Hotel Iya Onsen from Oboke Station without a car. Check October 2026 bus changes, bath hours and day-use fees before setting out.

Iya Valley is possible without a car, but the bus timetable has to shape the day. From October 1, 2026, Shikoku Kotsu is replacing the old Iya shuttle with a new Iya Gorge Line between Kazurabashi Yumebutai and Hotel Iya Onsen. That creates a useful bridge-to-onsen outing, though the transfer window at Yumebutai is short enough that you should check the latest operating notices before travelling.

A workable post-October 1 itinerary

Shikoku Kotsu’s revised timetables show this sequence:

TimeStopPlan
8:58 amOboke StationTake the Nishi-Iya Line toward Kazurabashi Yumebutai.
9:19 amKazurabashi YumebutaiWalk to the Iya Kazurabashi Vine Bridge, about five minutes away.
10:35 amKazurabashi YumebutaiBoard the Iya Gorge Line for Hotel Iya Onsen.
10:49 amHotel Iya OnsenArrive with time for the cable car and baths.
1:52 pmHotel Iya OnsenTake the Iya Gorge Line back to Yumebutai.
2:06 pmKazurabashi YumebutaiArrive back in the bridge area.
2:11 pmKazurabashi YumebutaiConnect to the Nishi-Iya Line toward Oboke Station.
2:29 pmOboke StationScheduled arrival.

This leaves roughly an hour for the bridge before the 10:35 bus, then just over three hours at Hotel Iya Onsen. The Yumebutai connection on the return is only five minutes. Treat it as a published connection, not a guaranteed one: check Shikoku Kotsu’s service information on the day, and do not build another timed activity around arriving at Oboke Station at exactly 2:29.

The 10:35, 1:52 and 2:11 services are listed in the operator’s post-change PDFs. The new Iya Gorge Line runs three times each way between Yumebutai and Hotel Iya Onsen; it is not an all-day shuttle. The line does not run on January 1. Confirm the dates and stop names in the current Shikoku Kotsu route-bus timetable before setting out.

Check each bath’s hours before choosing a stop

Hotel Iya Onsen includes the cable car, riverside open-air bath and indoor panoramic bath in its day-use ticket. It normally closes on Wednesdays, though the hotel may change the day off when it falls on a holiday. See the hotel’s bath page for its monthly calendar and maintenance notices.

Day-use detailInformation
Hours7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.; last admission 4 p.m.
Adult admission¥2,000
Child admission¥1,000
Regular closureWednesday; may change on holidays

The bridge is a natural fit before the onsen bus because Yumebutai is the bus stop for the bridge. Miyoshi City lists a ¥550 adult admission and seasonal opening hours; rain or other conditions can affect access. Check the city’s current bridge information rather than relying on an old travel listing.

Hotel Kazurabashi and Hikyounoyu are better treated as alternatives to Hotel Iya Onsen; their hours do not make them simple extra stops on the same bus plan.

FacilityDay-use hoursAdult admissionWeekly closure
Hotel Kazurabashi10:30 am–4 pm¥1,200Not listed here
HikyounoyuNoon on weekends/holidays; 3 pm weekdays¥1,100Tuesday

The 2026 route changes affect which Nishi-Iya bus serves each stop and when it returns. Hotel Iya Onsen’s shuttle is not listed as serving these facilities. See the three-hotel comparison for bath details and the Hotel Iya Onsen day-trip guide for its own access and facilities.

Where the Oboke Gorge boat fits

The sightseeing boat is another possible stop, but it is not part of the simple bridge-and-onsen connection above. The route changes on October 1, so check the revised timetable for a bus that reaches the boat pier and a separate return to Oboke Station before adding it. The boat operator also notes that river conditions can affect departures. If those connections do not line up, save the boat for another day rather than risk the last bus.

Before you leave Oboke Station

Shikoku Kotsu’s route network changes on October 1, 2026: the old Iya shuttle is discontinued, the Nishi-Iya Line expands from six to eight round trips, and the new Iya Gorge Line begins. The operator’s route page shows the timetable valid through September 30 separately from the revised PDFs. Use the table for your travel date, not a search snippet or a timetable saved from an earlier visit.

Mountain-road conditions can also disrupt service. Check Shikoku Kotsu’s operating information on the day, and check the hotels’ notices for maintenance or day-use closures. If a connection changes, keep the return to Oboke Station as the fixed point and drop the boat or second bath first.
