Four Natural Hot Springs in Tokushima City: Which Bath Fits Your Day?
Compare four natural-spring baths in Tokushima City by facilities, price and access, from the train-side Bizan no Yu to larger complexes.

“Tokushima onsen” can mean very different things in practice. These four facilities have documented natural spring water, but one is an urban spa, one a hotel bath, and the other two sit outside the station area. Here is the useful distinction before the details: choose by location and visit length first, then by the baths you actually want to use.
| Facility | Adult admission | Usual day-use hours | What stands out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aratae no Yu, Tamiya | ¥800 weekdays; ¥1,000 weekends / holidays | 8 am–1 am; later on Fri/Sat and holiday eves | Spring bath, two sauna types, bedrock bath |
| Ebisu no Yu | ¥750 | 8 am–midnight; last entry 11:30 pm | Iron-rich chloride spring, varied outdoor baths, tower sauna |
| Otome no Yu | ¥600 | 8 am–11:30 pm | Low-cost spring bath, outdoor pool and sauna |
| Bizan no Yu | ¥880 | 7 am–8 pm for day visitors | 11th-floor bath about a minute from Tokushima Station |
For a longer visit: Aratae no Yu
Aratae’s Tamiya branch is the broadest package in town. The source is listed at 29.4°C, pH 7.4 and 97.4 litres per minute. Its designated spring pool is heated without adding water and supplied source-flowing. Elsewhere are carbonated and electric pools, dry and salt saunas, and a separate bedrock-bath area.
| Aratae no Yu ticket | Weekday | Weekend / public holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥800 | ¥1,000 |
| Admission plus bedrock bath | ¥1,600 | ¥2,000 |
The complex closes at 1 a.m. most days, later on Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves. It suits a longer visit; for a quick bath near the station, the extra facilities may not justify the trip across town.
A bath with a distinct spring character: Ebisu no Yu
Ebisu no Yu’s spring is listed as an iron-containing sodium-magnesium chloride hot spring. Its rock bath can appear reddish, and the bathing area also has a tower sauna, goemon-style tubs, pot baths and a cave bath.
| Ebisu no Yu | Published terms |
|---|---|
| Adult entry | ¥750 |
| Hours | 8 a.m.–midnight |
| Last entry | 11:30 p.m. |
| Regular closure | Second Thursday of each month |
The trade-off is location. There is parking for 150 cars, and the prefectural tourism listing gives a roughly 10-minute drive from Route 55; this is the easiest of the four to build into a car trip. It is a less convenient detour from central Tokushima if you are relying on local buses.
The lower-cost spring bath: Otome no Yu
Otome no Yu charges adults ¥600. Facilities include an outdoor bath, jet bath, dry sauna and cold bath. Its water qualifies under Japan’s Hot Spring Act because of its metasilicic-acid content. The public listing does not provide a full ionic analysis.
The bath is in Hachiman-cho, on the lower slopes of Mount Bizan. A municipal bus to Enose Bridge is followed by about an eight-minute walk; drivers have a 100-car lot. This is a solid low-cost option when the bus schedule lines up, but the walk and return timetable make it less spontaneous than Bizan no Yu.
Station access: Bizan no Yu
Bizan no Yu occupies the 11th floor of Hotel Sunroute Tokushima, about a one-minute walk from JR Tokushima Station. The source is listed as a sodium-calcium chloride cold mineral spring.
| Bizan no Yu detail | Published value |
|---|---|
| Source temperature | 20.3°C |
| Flow rate | 280 litres per minute |
| Day-use hours | 7 a.m.–8 p.m. |
| Adult admission | ¥880 |
| Face / bath towel | ¥120 each |
The bath is restricted to men, so it is not a mixed-party option. Monthly maintenance can also interrupt the daytime window; the hotel lists 10 am–5 pm closures on selected dates in 2026. Check that calendar before using it between trains.
