Where to Bathe in Kochi City: Onsen, Sento and Day-Use Baths
Find Kochi City’s large day spas, natural hot spring near the castle, outlying baths and neighbourhood sento, with current-opening details.
Checked: September 27, 2026
“Onsen” in a facility name does not tell you everything about its water. In Kochi City, the practical choice is often about location and visit style: a full afternoon at a large bathing complex, a short soak near the castle, or a low-cost stop at a local sento.
Three large bath complexes
Himewakono-yu, Kochi Pokapoka Onsen and Tosa Pokapoka Onsen are the city’s main large day-use choices, with several pools and sauna facilities. Adult admission currently starts at ¥800, and opening hours run as late as 1 am. Their locations, closing times and add-on facilities differ; see the separate three-bath comparison for a closer look at prices, saunas and late-night entry.
Near Kochi Castle: Sansui-en’s day-use bath
Yudono Suisaikaku at Sansui-en is a hotel bath in Takajo-cho, close to Kochi Castle and the central sightseeing area. Day visitors can enter from 11 am to 4 pm, with last admission at 3:30 pm. Adult admission is ¥1,200; the bath has an outdoor section and sauna, and its sodium chloride spring water is circulated and heated rather than supplied directly from the source.
This is the easiest natural-spring option to pair with time around the castle without travelling out to a suburban facility. Day-use access is limited to the afternoon window, and hotel guests have priority for the parking spaces.
Haruno no Yu: check the bath status before setting out
Haruno no Yu is in Haruno, outside the central sightseeing area. Its regular hours are 10 am–10 pm, with last entry at 9 pm; adult admission is ¥700. The facility lists a sodium-calcium chloride spring.
One part of the women’s outdoor bath is currently out of service. In its September 10, 2026 notice, Haruno no Yu said a filtration-pump failure had temporarily closed the women’s cave-style outdoor bath; the women’s indoor baths and other facilities, along with the men’s indoor and outdoor baths, remained open as usual. Check the latest facility notices before travelling, since repair status can change.
A rural option by the Kagami River
Kagami Onsen RIO is in the Kagami area, away from Kochi’s central attractions. The city lists adult admission at ¥450, opening hours of 9 am–9 pm and Monday closures. When Monday is a public holiday, the bath opens that day and closes on Tuesday instead. The bathing area looks toward the Kagami River and surrounding mountains, making this a different kind of stop from the city-centre baths. The city’s page has the current details for Kagami Culture Station RIO.
Neighborhood sento: low-cost, local and worth checking ahead
Kochi City’s April 2026 list names three operating ordinary public baths: Takasago-yu, Shioyu and Tosa Onsen. Shimizuyu and Tsukasa-yu are marked as closed. The city does not publish opening hours or rest days for the listed sento, so call before making a special trip. “Tosa Onsen” is listed as an ordinary public bath; its name alone does not establish that it uses natural hot-spring water.
| Age group | City’s posted rate | Regulated maximum from October 1, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Adults | ¥450 | ¥550 |
| Ages 6–11 | ¥150 | ¥200 |
| Under 6 | ¥60 | ¥100 |
The new figures are maximum permitted rates for ordinary public baths, not mandatory prices. Each bathhouse sets its own admission.
For a plain-language explanation of the difference between an onsen, an ordinary sento and a larger spa, see the Japanese bath-type guide.
