Iya Onsen Day-Use Comparison: Hotel Iya Onsen, Hikyounoyu and Kazurabashi
Compare Iya’s cable-car river bath, larger sauna complex and mountain-top outdoor bath; check current hours and infrequent bus connections.
Checked: September 27, 2026
“Iya Onsen” can mean several different stops along the valley road. Hotel Iya Onsen takes you down to the Iya River by cable car. Hotel Hikyounoyu has the broadest indoor-bath setup and a salt sauna. Hotel Kazurabashi pairs an uphill cable-car ride with its mountaintop bath, close to the Iya Kazurabashi Vine Bridge.

Hours and admissions are the ordinary day-use listings checked on September 27, 2026. Seasonal maintenance, weather or other notices can change service, so check the hotel page for your date. Public transport is also in transition: from October 1, Shikoku Kotsu increases the Nishi-Iya Line from six to eight round trips and starts three daily Iya Gorge Line services each way between Kazurabashi Yumebutai and Hotel Iya Onsen. Check the revised route and transfer details before travelling.
Hotel Iya Onsen: the bath is the destination
The full day ticket includes the cable car, riverside bath and indoor panoramic bath. The cable car drops about 170 metres down the slope in roughly five minutes. At the bottom, the appeal is the Iya River and the hotel’s free-flowing alkaline simple sulfur spring. The source is listed at about 38°C; the indoor bath is heated and recirculated, so the water-treatment details differ by bath.
This is the highest-priced option in the comparison, and the most dependent on operating conditions. The two riverside baths alternate between men and women daily, and the hotel posts a monthly calendar. A private outdoor bath is available to day visitors only if there is space after arrival; it cannot be booked in advance and costs extra on top of admission. Read the full Hotel Iya Onsen day-trip guide before planning around a particular pool or bus.
Hotel Hikyounoyu: more ways to bathe in one building
The main bath has a large indoor pool, jet and bubble features, a reclining bath and an outdoor bath. The hotel also lists a salt sauna and an herbal bath. Its spring is a bicarbonate spring with fluoride and metaboric acid; the hotel states that the source is 19.2°C and the baths use circulation filtration. This is the practical pick if you value a range of bathing options more than a cable-car ride or a free-flowing pool.
Day-use hours start at 3 pm on weekdays, leaving room for a morning visit to the vine bridge or Oboke Gorge. On weekends and holidays, admission starts at noon. The hotel’s FAQ lists sauna hours as 3–9 pm, so check whether it will be open during your planned visit.
The hotel does not admit guests with tattoos. Its access page lists the Iya route bus, but return departures are sparse; check the timetable before entering.
Hotel Kazurabashi: an easy pairing with the vine bridge
From the hotel’s third-floor courtyard, a small cable car climbs to the open-air bath above the inn. That upward ride gives you a different view from Hotel Iya Onsen’s descent to the river. Day visitors can use the mountaintop bath and the indoor public bath. Towels are sold separately: a face towel costs ¥200 and a bath towel ¥400, so bring your own if you already have room in your day bag.
The day-use window is 10:30 am–4 pm. The hotel is about a 20-minute bus ride from Oboke Station, with the stop directly in front, and is near the Vine Bridge route. Buses are limited, so plan the return before you leave the station. Day visitors cannot use either of the hotel’s bookable private baths; those are for overnight guests.
Which one fits your day?
If the source-water bath and riverside setting matter most, choose Hotel Iya Onsen and give the outing enough time. For a longer bathing session with a sauna and several indoor options, Hikyounoyu is the clearest match, though weekday afternoon hours narrow the window. When you are already visiting the Vine Bridge, Kazurabashi is usually the easiest bath to add without turning the whole day into a separate excursion.
For all three, transport is the part to settle first if you are not driving. The expanded Iya network still runs on a regional timetable, not city-bus frequency. Confirm the post-change route, transfer points and return time, then choose the bath whose opening hours fit the journey.
