Three Large Day-Use Baths in Kochi City: Himewakono-yu vs. Kochi and Tosa Pokapoka

Compare Himewakono-yu, Kochi Pokapoka and Tosa Pokapoka by price, closing time, rail access and sauna. Adult entry starts at ¥800.

Checked: September 27, 2026

The adult admission gap is fairly small: Kochi Pokapoka starts at ¥800, Tosa Pokapoka is ¥850, and Himewakono-yu costs ¥900 on weekdays or ¥1,100 on weekends and public holidays. What changes the decision is the shape of the visit—rail access, a late finish, or a particular sauna setup.

Himewakono-yu: a bigger outdoor-bath and sauna stop

The bathing area is the main reason to pick Himewakono-yu. It has natural-spring outdoor and indoor baths alongside an artificial high-concentration carbonated bath. That carbonated pool is a separate feature, not another natural spring bath.

The sauna details differ by bath. The men’s high-temperature far-infrared sauna runs an auto löyly session at half past each hour; its cold bath is listed at about 15°C and one metre deep. The women’s side has far-infrared and steam saunas, plus a salt sauna and a paid women-only bedrock-bath area. Facility schedules and the bedrock-bath price can change, so check the official page if those extras are central to your visit.

The facility uses monochloramine disinfection. A towel set is not included: a face towel and bath-towel rental together add ¥300, making a weekday visit ¥1,200 before food or other extras.

Kochi Pokapoka: the easiest one to reach by train

Kochi Pokapoka is the practical choice when a car is not part of the day. JR Azo-no Station is about a 10-minute walk away, and the Minamikawazoe bus stop is about five minutes from the entrance. Drivers can use the free parking lot, listed at around 130 spaces.

Adults pay ¥800. The standard admission includes the bathing facilities and both the high-temperature and salt saunas. The natural spring is used in the outdoor bath; the operator classifies the water as a sodium-calcium chloride cold mineral spring. Other pools include massage baths and a cold plunge.

The facility opens at 8 am and closes at midnight, with last entry at 11:30 pm. It is closed on the third Tuesday of each month. The early opening makes it easier to fit in before a day around Kochi; the closing time is earlier than the two other baths in this comparison.

Its source is listed as a sodium-calcium chloride cold mineral spring with weak alkalinity and high tonicity. The operator specifically identifies the outdoor bath as the natural-spring bath; do not assume every jet or massage pool draws the same water. Children’s admission is ¥400 for elementary-school pupils and ¥200 for ages three through preschool; ages two and under are free. A Wednesday children’s free-bathing offer has seasonal and holiday exclusions, so confirm the date-specific terms rather than treating it as a year-round rate.

Tosa Pokapoka: stay for the sauna and bedrock bath

Tosa Pokapoka charges adults ¥850 and opens from 9 am to 1 am, with last entry at 12:30 am. It closes on the third Thursday of the month. The extra hour over Kochi Pokapoka can help after dinner, though the bedrock-bath section stops accepting guests before the main bath closes.

The facility lists a regular sauna, salt sauna and steam sauna with a footbath. Its “Ase-dō” bedrock bath costs an additional ¥650 on top of bath admission; bedrock-bath clothing and towels are included. Visitors who rent the facility’s clothing can return to the baths during their visit, subject to the current house rules.

Tosa Pokapoka’s spring is listed as a sodium chloride hot spring. There is no private family bath, so groups use the separate men’s and women’s bathing areas. The facility also states that guests with tattoos or paint-on tattoo stickers cannot enter. If tattoo access matters, check the other two facilities directly rather than treating the absence of a published rule as permission.

Its children’s rates are ¥450 for elementary-school pupils and ¥280 for ages three through preschool; children aged two and under enter free. Free baby bath chairs and baby soap are available, and a Wednesday children’s free-bathing offer is subject to busy-season exclusions. The separate bedrock-bath area closes before the main baths: its listed window is about 9:30 a.m.–midnight, with last reception at 11:30 p.m.
