Getting to Ogon-no-Yu by Bus: A Practical Tsubame Onsen Day Trip

Reach seasonal Ogon-no-Yu by limited Seki–Tsubame bus or car; the outdoor bath is a short walk from parking and open only in daylight.

For a car-free visit, plan the transport first and the soak second. Tsubame Onsen is a mountain destination, not a station-side bath. The local bus makes the trip possible, but the number of departures means you should know your return option before boarding in Sekiyama.

Build the trip around the bus back

The municipal Seki–Tsubame Onsen Line connects Sekiyama Station with Tsubame Onsen. Myoko City publishes the current timetable and seasonal service notes on its bus page. Check the date-specific schedule for both directions, then leave enough time for the walk, changing and the return to the stop. Do not assume a taxi will be available at the village unless you have arranged one.

From the Tsubame Onsen parking area, the walk to Ogon-no-Yu is about 10 minutes. It is a mountain path, not a paved station-to-bath entrance. In early spring, snow can remain after the road is open; the 2026 opening notice warned of deep snow and required boots at that time. Conditions later in the season are different, but rain, wet leaves and ice can still affect footing.

Timing matters more than a long visit

The bath is generally available from sunrise to sunset and closes on Monday and Friday mornings for cleaning. It is shut during the winter snow season, and the season’s opening date can shift year to year. The 2026 opening notice was dated March 27; it should not be used as a promise that the bath will open on the same date next year. Check Myoko Tourism close to your visit for current closures and trail conditions.

There are no full spa facilities at the outdoor bath. Bring your own towel, wear shoes with grip and carry anything you need for warmth afterward. If the light is fading, the path is wet or the bus connection leaves too little time, shorten the visit rather than hurrying back down the trail.

If you want to make this part of a Myoko day

Ogon-no-Yu is easiest as the main stop on a Tsubame Onsen visit. A wider Myoko outing can include other bus-served areas, but seasonal routes and transfer points vary; check the latest Myoko City information rather than relying on an old printed itinerary. The Tsubame half-day guide discusses a broader car-free outing, while the Ogon-no-Yu and Kawara-no-Yu walk guide covers the two-bath trail choice. For bath details and opening rules, see the Ogon-no-Yu guide.
