Naena-no-Yu in Suginosawa: A Simple Soak After Hiking or Skiing

Naena-no-Yu costs ¥500 and usually opens 11 a.m.–7 p.m., closing Wednesdays; check seasonal hours and bring or buy a towel.

After a day at Naena Falls, on the trails around Sasagamine or at Myoko Suginohara Ski Resort, Naena-no-Yu offers a straightforward place to wash off and warm up. Think neighborhood bathhouse, not a resort spa: there is an indoor bath, washing stations and a hair dryer, but no outdoor bath or sauna.

The facility’s own website lists an 11 am opening and Wednesday closure. Myoko Tourism’s listing still shows 10 am and Tuesday/Wednesday closure, so do not plan around the older tourism-page schedule. Summer holidays and ski season can bring different hours; check the facility notice or call on the day if timing matters.

Body wash, rinse-in shampoo and a hair dryer are listed as available. Towels are not rented, though face and bath towels can be purchased. The inn does not hold luggage, so arrive with your hiking or ski gear already sorted; small valuables should be kept under your own care.

What to expect from the bath

Naena-no-Yu describes its water as a bicarbonate spring, nearly colourless and mild in character. It is the only day-use hot-spring facility in Suginosawa. Both men’s and women’s bathing rooms are on the second floor. The building has an entrance ramp and a stair lift, but the facility says it is not fully barrier-free and that visitors with mobility needs should have assistance.

There is no outdoor bath, sauna or extensive relaxation area. That is not a drawback if all you need is a clean, warm indoor soak after being outdoors. If your idea of a recovery stop includes a sauna or open-air bath, choose another facility in the Myoko area.

Getting there

Naena-no-Yu is at the Suginosawa Onsen Center in Myoko. Local buses serve the Suginosawa area, but the timetable varies by season, and services to nearby sights such as Naena Falls may require a transfer. Check the latest Myoko City and Myoko Tourism bus information before relying on public transport. The bath’s own site lists parking, making a car the simpler option when you are carrying outdoor equipment.
