Day Bathing at Oyado Furuya in Akakura Onsen: Hours and Seasonal Limits

Oyado Furuya has two gender-separated bathing areas, each with an indoor bath and an outdoor bath. They alternate between men and women on a schedule, which matters for a short day visit: you will use the bath assigned to your gender during the afternoon window, not tour both sides.

A narrow afternoon window

Furuya’s FAQ lists day bathing from 3 pm to 6 pm, with last reception at 5 pm. It also says ordinary day bathing is unavailable in winter. Admission for a regular visit is not clearly listed on the FAQ, so confirm the current price by phone rather than carrying over the ¥500 price from a past campaign.

That ¥500 offer was part of the Akakura Onsen Tourism Association’s 2026 “one-coin” bathing promotion, which ran from May 10 through July 31. Furuya took part during that period, but the promotion has finished; it is not the inn’s standing day-bath price.

The inn’s September 2026 maintenance notice lists September 28 and 29 as closure dates. Phone enquiries are not handled on closure days. For later dates, check the current calendar and call on an open day to confirm that day visitors are being accepted.

One of two baths, not both

The two baths are called Tatami-no-yu and Ishi-no-yu. Tatami-no-yu has a tatami-style floor; Ishi-no-yu uses Towada stone. Both have an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, and Furuya describes its water as drawn directly from the Akakura source and used flow-through.

The gender schedule changes at 8 pm: from 3 pm to 7:30 pm, Tatami-no-yu is for men and Ishi-no-yu for women; from 8 pm, the assignments switch. Day visitors leave by 6 pm, so the evening rotation is outside the standard day-use window. Guests should not expect to use both baths during one visit.

Furuya mentions white or dark mineral deposits (“yunohana”) that can appear in the spring water. The inn identifies them as natural spring sediment. Bring your own towels: the accommodation-room towel set should not be assumed to come with day admission. The current FAQ says there are no towels in the bathing area.

Reaching the inn

Oyado Furuya is in Akakura Onsen, not beside Myoko-Kogen Station. The inn’s access information describes station pickup by arrangement, but it is not a scheduled shuttle. When calling about day bathing, ask whether a pickup is available for your visit and agree on the time before relying on it.

Akakura’s local bus runs from Myoko-Kogen Station, but the exact schedule changes seasonally. If travelling by bus, leave enough time to reach the inn before last admission and check the return trip before you go. In winter, choose another facility: Furuya’s day-bath FAQ explicitly rules out winter day use. Wakui Hotel lists year-round day bathing, while the outdoor Takinoyu guide covers the seasonal public bath.
