After Obi or Aburatsu: Where to Find a Day-Use Onsen
Finished sightseeing in Obi or Aburatsu? Compare Hinata no Yado, Kitago, Aoshima and Kushima by route, day-use hours, current fees and last-entry times.
Finishing the castle-town walk in Obi does not put you beside a walk-in hot-spring bath. Nichinan City’s official Obi sightseeing guide focuses on the historic district and its attractions; the public day-use options covered here are in Hoshikura, Kitago, Aoshima or farther south in Kushima. Think about where you are going after the bath before choosing one.
For the shortest detour after Obi, start with Hinata no Yado in Hoshikura. It is about five minutes from Obi Station by car, but day visitors cannot enter from 9 a.m. to noon and no standard walk-in price is listed.
Kitago has a renovated public bath, a small ryokan and a hilltop resort; none is an easy walk from the sightseeing streets. If the day ends in Miyazaki City or Aoshima, continuing north may save backtracking. Kushima fits a southbound route.

| Where you are headed after sightseeing | Best place to check first | The practical catch |
|---|---|---|
| Leaving Obi and want the shortest bath detour | Hinata no Yado | Roughly five minutes by car from Obi Station; day use pauses from 9 a.m. to noon, and the current official page gives no standard admission price. |
| Want an inexpensive bath and sauna during the day | Sancherry Kitago | ¥600 for adults; 11 a.m.–8 p.m., last entry 7 p.m. The regular closure is the second and fourth Monday, with a holiday adjustment. |
| Starting near Aburatsu, travelling without a car | Marushinso in Kitago | The published local-bus route from Aburatsu Station takes about 25 minutes, followed by a two-minute walk; check the return bus before committing. |
| Arriving late and want an open-air view | Hotel Nichinan Kitago Resort | Day use continues until 10 p.m., but the hotel is on a hillside and Tuesday/Thursday cleaning affects one gender’s bath until around 1 p.m. |
| Staying or continuing north toward Aoshima or Miyazaki | Aoshima | Myth no Yu is about a three-minute walk from Aoshima Station; its operator explicitly prohibits tattoos. |
| Continuing south toward Toi Cape or Shibushi | Kushima Onsen Ikoi no Sato | The bath has reopened, but the train-plus-bus connection is infrequent; plan both legs before travelling. |
After Obi: Hinata no Yado is close, but mind the midday gap
Natural Onsen Hinata no Yado Nichinan Miyazaki is in Hoshikura, near Obi. The hotel lists a drive of about five minutes from JR Obi Station and 196 free parking spaces. That makes it a straightforward stop by car or pre-arranged taxi after the castle town; it is not a bath to assume you can simply walk to from the station.
Day-use bathing is listed from 6–9 a.m. and noon–10 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m. The three hours from 9 a.m. to noon are closed to day visitors. If your Obi visit ends in the late morning, leave that time for lunch or another stop rather than waiting at the hotel.
The bath has more than ten features across the men’s and women’s areas, including outdoor baths, jet baths, a sauna and a private family bath. Published source data gives a temperature of 33.4°C and pH 7.4; pool-by-pool water treatment is unconfirmed.
| Practical detail | Current information |
|---|---|
| Day-use hours | 6–9 a.m. and noon–10 p.m.; last entry 9 p.m. |
| Midday break | Closed to day visitors from 9 a.m. to noon |
| Standard walk-in price | Not listed |
Call before paying for a taxi specifically to visit this bath.
For pool details and the gap between sessions, see the Hinata no Yado guide.
Kitago: choose one bath, not a walking circuit
Kitago’s baths are spread out, so plan around one facility rather than trying to walk between them. Sancherry Kitago has a large bath, sauna, outdoor bath and three family-bath rooms that must be booked by phone.
| Sancherry Kitago | Current terms |
|---|---|
| Admission | ¥600 adults; ¥300 children through elementary school |
| Private family bath | ¥2,500 for one hour |
| Hours | 11 a.m.–8 p.m.; last entry 7 p.m. |
| Regular closure | Second and fourth Monday; moves to Tuesday when a closure falls on a holiday |
| Included toiletries/towels | Not supplied free |
Marushinso is a small ryokan bath with indoor and outdoor pools. Its spring emerges from about 800 metres underground at 51°C; this is the source temperature, not the bathing-pool temperature.
| Marushinso | Current terms |
|---|---|
| Admission | ¥600 adults; ¥350 children through elementary school |
| Hours | 11 a.m.–7:50 p.m.; last entry 7 p.m. |
| Closing days | Irregular; confirm before leaving the coast |
From Aburatsu Station, the Kyushu 88 Hot Springs listing gives a useful no-car route: take the bus from the station forecourt to Kitago Onsen-mae, about 25 minutes, then walk around two minutes. The route depends on the actual bus schedule, so check the departure and return times for your day. From Obi, do not assume the same transfer is equally direct; compare a taxi to the chosen bath with continuing north toward Aoshima.
Hotel Nichinan Kitago Resort closes later than the other Kitago baths and sits on a hill, making a car or taxi the practical choice.
| Hotel Nichinan Kitago Resort | Current terms |
|---|---|
| Adult bath admission | ¥800 weekdays; ¥1,000 weekends, public holidays and Obon; ¥1,300 Golden Week and New Year |
| Hours | 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; last entry 9 p.m. |
| Bath plus bedrock bath | Price varies by date |
| Cleaning | Women’s bath Tuesdays; men’s bath Thursdays; affected area usually opens around 1 p.m. |
The Kitago day-use guide compares all three facilities; see the individual Sancherry guide and Marushinso guide for their bath layouts and access notes.
If your next stop is north: leave the bath for Aoshima
If you are staying in Aoshima or Miyazaki City, heading inland to Kitago and returning to the coast adds a detour. Myth no Yu is about a three-minute walk from JR Aoshima Station, and its day ticket allows re-entry. It has indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna, cold bath and reservable private baths.
| Myth no Yu | Current terms |
|---|---|
| Admission | ¥700 adults aged 13+; ¥450 ages 6–12; free age 5 and under |
| Hours | 6 a.m.–10 p.m.; last entry 9:30 p.m. |
One firm restriction: Myth no Yu’s operator prohibits guests with tattoos. Policies at other Aoshima baths differ, so do not treat one hotel’s rule as an area-wide standard. The Aoshima day-use comparison covers other options, while the Aoshima no-car guide explains the station and airport-side routes.
If your trip continues south: Kushima is a different route
Kushima Onsen Ikoi no Sato reopened its main baths on August 29, 2026, after renovation work. It has 100 free parking spaces.
| Kushima Onsen Ikoi no Sato | Current terms |
|---|---|
| Admission | ¥600 adults; ¥300 children |
| Hours | 7 a.m.–10 p.m.; last entry 9:30 p.m. |
| Regular closure | Third Wednesday of each month |
Without a car, the operator’s route is JR Nichinan Line to Kushima Station, then the Honjo–Ichiki local bus toward Koshima, about 20 minutes to the bath. Its own site warns that trains and buses are infrequent. Confirm the return connection before setting out; this is a sensible southbound stop, not a shortcut from Obi when your evening is back in Aoshima or Miyazaki.
If you are weighing a day visit against an overnight stay in the south, our Kushima Ikoi no Sato stay-versus-day-trip guide covers that decision.
