Sancherry Kitago: A Practical Guide to the Renovated Nichinan Onsen

Sancherry Kitago costs ¥600 for adults, with last entry at 7 p.m.; bring towels or toiletries, or buy them at reception.

Checked: September 27, 2026

Sancherry Kitago reopened on December 21, 2024, after a major renovation. The municipal bathhouse is built with local Obi cedar and has separate public baths, an outdoor bath, a sauna and a rest area. Miyazaki Prefecture describes its natural hot spring as source-fed; the city listing is especially useful for the practical details below.

The ¥600 ticket is for the public bath

The public bath includes an indoor bath, an outdoor bath and a sauna. A rest space and vending machines are also available.

Child through elementary school¥300HK$15 / NT$61

One thing to pack: the public bath does not provide shampoo, body wash or towels. Bring your own or buy them at reception. This is easy to miss when you are driving around Nichinan with only a small day bag, and it changes the real cost of a quick stop if you arrive empty-handed.

The facility is open from 11 am to 8 pm, with last entry at 7 pm. It normally closes on the second and fourth Monday of each month; when a closure falls on a public holiday, the closure moves to the following day. The annual year-end closure runs from December 30 to January 2. Check the city’s current listing before a special trip.

A private bath needs its own call

Three family-bath rooms each have an indoor and an outdoor bath. The one-hour room fee is separate from public-bath admission. Call 0987-67-4737 to reserve; calls are taken on operating days from 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

¥2,500 per room for one hourHK$126 / NT$510

The one-hour slot includes the changing and washing time, so it can feel tight with young children or anyone who needs more time getting in and out. The prefecture’s accessibility listing notes grab rails, a shower chair and a step-free route into the changing area; it also records a 19 cm level change between the indoor and outdoor baths in the family rooms. Ask which room best fits your needs when booking.

For a direct comparison of the two Kitago properties with bookable private baths, see the family-bath guide. It covers the resort’s ¥2,700 one-hour option and later booking window as well.

Getting there from the station

Sancherry is about a six- to seven-minute drive from JR Kitago Station, with parking available. That is close enough to add to a local drive, but not a practical walk for most visitors arriving by train. A no-car visit is possible if you arrange a taxi, but set up the return ride before you head out; the 7 pm last-entry time does not leave a late-evening margin.

For a day with more than one possible soak, the Kitago Onsen day-trip guide compares Sancherry with Marushinso and the hilltop resort. The resort’s bedrock-bath guide is a better fit if you want to spend longer among different heated rooms.
