Nango Onsen Dontaro no Yu: A Mountain Hot Spring in Misato, Miyazaki

Visit Dontaro no Yu for a ¥520 bath, outdoor pool and sauna; the bus from Hyuga City Station takes about 70 minutes each way.

Checked: September 27, 2026

Nango Onsen Dontaro no Yu is also listed under its older name, Nango Onsen Yamagiri. They are the same facility at 151-1 Kado, Nango, Misato. The name change can make older travel listings look like a second hot spring, but there is only one place to navigate to.

The attraction here is a mountain-town bath with unusually specific spring data, not a big urban spa. Misato Town lists a sodium bicarbonate spring, pH 8.7, a source temperature of 37.1°C and a flow rate of 124.2 litres per minute. Those are source measurements; they do not describe the temperature or treatment of every bath in the building.

What you can use for ¥520

The facility has indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna, a large free rest room, a shop and a restaurant.

DetailCurrent listing
Adult admission¥520
Junior-high student¥320
Child, age four through elementary school¥210
Hours10 a.m.–8 p.m.; last admission 7:30 p.m.
Usual weekly closureThursday; moves to Friday when Thursday is a public holiday

The operator describes the spring as natural and flow-through. Misato Town also publishes maintenance records for circulation, heating and disinfection equipment. That equipment record does not establish how every tub is supplied, so it is safer to describe the facility’s flow-through positioning without assuming that every pool is untreated source water.

The private bath needs a phone booking

There is one private bathing room, available to one group a day from 1 to 4 p.m. The facility lists a room-use fee of ¥1,500 per hour and asks guests to reserve by phone at +81 982-59-0100. Its website does not clearly say whether ordinary admission is included in that fee, so confirm the total and group size when booking.

This is the option to ask about if you are travelling with a small child, need more privacy, or would rather not use a communal bath. The public pages do not set out a tattoo policy; contact the facility directly instead of assuming that the private-room booking settles it.

A sensible stop after the Nango heritage sites

Dontaro no Yu sits in the same district as Kadokura, Saigo no Shoseiin and Mikado Shrine, sites associated with the local story of Baekje royal descendants. It fits more naturally at the end of a day in Nango than as a standalone bath trip from central Miyazaki. The bath stays open until 8 p.m., but the last admission is 7:30, so leave enough time for the mountain roads or bus connection.

From JR Hyuga City Station, the operator lists a Miyazaki Kotsu bus toward Mikado, taking about 70 minutes and stopping right by the bath. That is a real public-transport option, though not a flexible one: check both directions for your travel date, especially with a timetable revision due October 1, 2026. By car, the town’s official tourism listing gives roughly 55 minutes from Hyuga City Station.

If you are deciding between this and Misato’s other main bath, Mimikawa no Yu at Misato Lakeland has a lake-facing setting and a broader recreation complex. The Misato bath comparison lays out how the two fit different routes.
