Tsurunoyu Is Closed: What to Know Before Kame-no-Yu Opens in Kumamoto
Tsurunoyu closed on Aug 31, 2026 and is due to reopen as Kame-no-Yu on Nov 1. Check pre-opening bath hours, family-bath rates and rules.
Summary: Tsurunoyu Kumamoto Inter ended service on August 31, 2026. The site is being renovated and is scheduled to reopen as Kame-no-Yu by HATAGO INN on November 1; the new bath’s hours, prices and rules are still pre-opening information.
Checked: September 27, 2026
The old Tsurunoyu Kumamoto Inter bath is no longer operating. Its final day under that name was August 31, 2026; renovation runs through October, with the location scheduled to reopen on November 1 as Kame-no-Yu by HATAGO INN. If you are travelling in September or October, do not use an old listing that still shows Tsurunoyu’s former 6:00 a.m. opening.
What the new operator has announced
Kame-no-Yu has published its planned admission, bathing hours and family-bath terms ahead of opening. The schedule below is the operator’s pre-opening information; it may change once the facility begins operating.
The page also lists nine private family-bath rooms, open 11:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. with last reception at 9:00 p.m. Rates are ¥2,300–¥4,000 for 60 minutes, depending on room, day and time. Reservations are not accepted; rooms are assigned in arrival order, and weekend reception may close earlier when busy. The bath is refilled for each group.
| Kame-no-Yu information announced before opening | Listed details |
|---|---|
| Adult / elementary-school child / younger child | ¥550 / ¥200 / ¥80 |
| Indoor bath | 6:00 a.m.–midnight |
| Sauna | 6:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.; ages 13 and over |
| Outdoor bath, weekdays | 1:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m. |
| Outdoor bath, weekends and holidays | 11:00 a.m.–10:30 p.m. |
| Private family baths | Nine rooms; 11:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.; last reception 9:00 p.m. |
| Private bath, 60 minutes | ¥2,300–¥4,000; up to two adults plus three children below elementary-school age |
The ¥550 entry does not include towels or toiletries. The operator has not yet built an operating record under the new name; confirm the current schedule after November 1, especially if you are planning around a private room.
Rules and supplies listed for day visitors
The new operator allows guests with tattoos and people wearing diapers or training pants to use a private family bath, but not the public bath. Sauna access is limited to guests aged 13 and over. These are Kame-no-Yu’s pre-opening rules, not the former Tsurunoyu policy.
The former Tsurunoyu and the new Kame-no-Yu should be treated as separate operations. Do not carry over the old family-bath price, room rules or hot-spring claims as though nothing changed.
For a currently operating early or late bath, check the Kumamoto City timing guide. The citywide onsen and sento guide separates current options from the closed site.
