Takanoya’s private bath is one of the clearest day-use options in Ueki Onsen for people who want to bathe together without booking an overnight stay. The current arrangement began February 1, 2026, and is concentrated in the morning. It is not an all-day private-bath pass.

The private-bath window is 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. for reception, with guests asked to be out of the bath by 3:00 p.m. The operator warns that day visitors often cannot use the baths in the evening. If you only need the public bath, the same advice applies: confirm the day’s acceptance rather than relying on an older listing with evening hours.
Call before planning around the 50-minute slot
The January 2026 notice sets the window and prices but does not clearly explain whether every private-bath booking must be made in advance. An older page says to reserve, while the current notice asks guests to enquire about access. Treat a phone call as part of the plan, especially on weekends or holidays. Ask which time slots remain and whether the listed 50 minutes includes changing time.
For two adults, the ¥2,500 room rate is ¥1,300 more than two ¥600 public-bath admissions. That extra cost buys a private space where both guests can bathe together. For a solo visitor, the public bath is the more economical way to try the spring.
The water and the fine print
Takanoya’s July 2026 article identifies its own spring as an alkaline simple sulfur spring, pH 8.9, with hardness around 4 mg/L. The inn describes its baths as source-fed. Jalan’s accommodation listing also marks water addition, so the two descriptions do not establish that every tub operates without any treatment. If that distinction matters to you, ask the inn which bath and current operating method the day-use ticket covers.
Jalan guests staying overnight frequently praise the feel of the water. A few mention a compact changing area or noise between rooms. Those reviews concern accommodation, not the newly published day-use private-bath window, so they are best treated as context rather than a verdict on a short visit.
The inn reported that it had completed safety checks and resumed normal operation after the July 2026 Kumamoto earthquake. Recheck access on your travel date, especially if there have been new tremors or road notices.
The published public-bath rates also include ¥300 for children aged four and up who have not started elementary school, and ¥100 for children under three. The inn’s notice says elementary-school-age children pay ¥400. Confirm the age category directly if travelling with a child near the cutoff.
Arriving by bus
Sanko Bus route A5-3 serves Ueki Onsen from Sakuramachi Bus Terminal, but it is not a high-frequency city route. A timetable change is scheduled for October 1, 2026, so use the date-specific schedule rather than screenshots or older articles. Lock in the bath time and return trip before boarding. Day-use rates and overnight bathing are separate
Overnight guests have access to the public baths in the afternoon and again in the morning. The inn’s post-earthquake notice also says their private-bath use is complimentary; this benefit is part of a stay, not comparable to a day-use slot.
