Atami Fireworks 2026: Where to Stay and Watch

Compare room views, hotel viewing areas and waterfront spots for Atami’s 2026 fireworks. Check event dates, dinner timing and the crowded trip back.

By: Gigi

After the Atami Sea Fireworks end, people head for the station, bus stops and nearby hotels at the same time. Where you stay determines whether you can return straight to your room, watch from a designated hotel area or walk back through the coastal crowds. A room described as “ocean view” does not automatically guarantee a view of the fireworks. Check the room type, sightline and exact booking plan before paying.

Upcoming dates: October 2026 to February 2027

The remaining scheduled 2026 dates after September 25 are October 12 and 25, November 8 and 23, and December 6 and 25. An additional show is scheduled for February 21, 2027. Most displays run from 8:20 to 8:40 pm; July and August shows run from 8:15 to 8:40 pm. Dates and times can change, so check Atami’s official event notice before travelling.

There are no paid viewing seats in 2026. On July and August dates, some areas of Shinsui Park are reserved for eligible overnight guests; outside those months, the park’s viewing areas are open to the public. Road closures are mainly a July–August measure, but the station and waterfront can still be crowded after any show. Do not estimate your last train connection using an ordinary evening’s walking time.

For July and August shows, Moon Terrace in Shinsui Park’s first zone closes after 5 pm. The seaside section of the second zone and the third zone are reserved for eligible hotel guests; the event plaza in the second zone remains open to the public. Atami does not allow visitors to reserve a park spot with a picnic mat.

Set a meeting point before the crowd builds, as mobile service can become unreliable around showtime. In other seasons, the park areas are open to the public; check the event notice for any changes.

Deciding where you want to watch first makes it easier to compare room types and dinner plans than booking an “ocean-view room” and hoping the fireworks are visible.

Watch from your room: Atami Korakuen Hotel

At Atami Korakuen Hotel, every Tower Building room faces the sea and can see the fireworks. In AQUA SQUARE, only Ocean View and Universal rooms have a balcony view; Courtyard rooms do not. The hotel also sells a fireworks plan that guarantees viewing from designated Tower Building rooms on specified floors. Check the plan name, not just the hotel or “ocean view” label.

For its fireworks plan, dinner seating is no later than 7:30 pm, while the display begins at about 8:20 pm. If you expect to arrive late, confirm that you can make the meal. In-room baths are not hot-spring baths; use the hotel’s public bath or another designated facility if you want to soak in the on-site hot spring. A free shuttle runs between Atami Station and the hotel in about 10 minutes, but seats are limited. If a bus is full, you must wait for the next one, so allow extra time when travelling with luggage or on a busy date.

Check the Atami Korakuen Hotel fireworks plan for your dates if you want to watch from your room:

Watch from a designated hotel area: Hotel New Akao

Hotel New Akao has ocean-facing guest rooms, but its fireworks viewing area for overnight guests is in the Ocean Wing. An ocean view from your room is not a promise that you can watch the display from inside it. The hotel sits on Nishikigaura Cape, making it an option if you would rather watch on the property and return to your room without walking back through the central waterfront crowds.

A free shuttle connects Atami Station and the hotel in about 10 minutes; no reservation is required. Once there, check which wing your room is in and leave time to walk between your room, restaurant, baths and viewing area. Spa Rium Nishiki uses Atami No. 402 spring, a sodium-calcium chloride spring with a pH of 7.3. Those figures apply to that bath, not necessarily to every tub at the hotel.

If you want to watch on the hotel grounds and use the hot spring that evening, check the Hotel New Akao stay options:

Walk to the waterfront: Furuya Ryokan

Staying near Sun Beach means you can walk back to your lodging after the show, but the beach and Shinsui Park get crowded and you may be standing for a while. Furuya Ryokan is about a 15-minute walk or a 3–5-minute drive from Atami Station. The inn does not designate every room as a fireworks-viewing room, so treat the coast—not your room—as the viewing spot unless you have confirmed otherwise.

After the show, you can return to the inn’s Seizaemon-yu bath. It uses a sodium-calcium chloride spring that emerges at a high temperature and is naturally cooled for bathing. Some designated rooms have their own spring-fed bath; standard room types use the communal bath. Check the exact room name: an in-room tub does not necessarily use natural hot-spring water.

Furuya’s location shortens the walk back; it does not reserve a seat or guarantee a view from your room. The waterfront may require standing, and the paths can move slowly after the show. If you are travelling with children or someone who cannot stand for long, decide in advance whether to leave before the finale rather than waiting for the crowd to clear. On fireworks dates, choose a room for its spring-fed bath if that matters to you, and check its sightline separately.

Check Furuya Ryokan for your dates if you want a short walk back and the option of bathing in the inn’s own spring:

Plan dinner around the display

The fireworks last about 20 minutes. A full kaiseki dinner that starts after the show is usually impractical. If you book a dinner-and-breakfast plan, ask what time dinner seating ends on fireworks dates, how long the meal takes and whether you can reach your room or viewing area afterward. If the timing does not work, book an earlier seating or a plan without dinner; do not assume you can watch the whole show while eating.

If you are staying near the coast, reach your viewing spot early and walk back afterward. If your hotel is farther away, ask whether a shuttle runs on that date, where it departs and whether it operates after the display. Atami Station manages pedestrian flows before and after the show, and a taxi booking does not guarantee a pickup at the event area.

Avoid scheduling a same-night Shinkansen departure soon after the fireworks. The show ends around 8:40 pm, but you still need to leave the viewing area and wait for pedestrian flows to clear before reaching the station. If you have large bags or someone in your party walks slowly, a stay within walking distance is easier to plan than trying to find a ride afterward.

Match the viewing spot to your group

  • Travelling with young children or someone who cannot stand for long: choose a plan that guarantees a room view, or confirm access to the hotel’s designated viewing area. Check separately whether the in-room bath uses hot-spring water.
  • Want to watch by the water: expect to wait in a crowd, wear comfortable walking shoes and allow extra time to return to your inn.
  • Want to head straight back after the show: check which hotel wing the viewing area is in and how long it takes to reach your room.
  • Catching a train that night: leave a generous buffer after the finale. Crowd control can slow the walk back to the station.

Atami’s tourism information lists a wheelchair viewing area in the first zone of Shinsui Park. Confirm the day’s accessible route and crowd arrangements in advance. If waiting outdoors is not practical, look for a plan with an explicit in-room viewing guarantee and separately confirm whether an accessible room is available.

Autumn and winter can feel cold while you wait by the water, so bring a warm layer and consider leaving early. If the weather turns, follow on-site instructions; a general rain policy does not guarantee that the viewing conditions will be unchanged.
