Peaceful Seiryusen in Kawatana Onsen: Prices, Family Baths and Access

Compare ¥480 admission, towels and family-bath rules at Peaceful Seiryusen. The inn is about 2 km from the station, so plan the last leg as well.

Peaceful Seiryusen is a good-value local bathhouse in Kawatana: adult admission is ¥480, and the ticket covers the indoor bath, open-air bath, electric bath, mist sauna and cold plunge. Bring your own soap, shampoo and towel, though. The public bath supplies none of those free of charge, so an adult arriving empty-handed needs at least ¥860 for admission and the ¥380 set of basics.

It is not a station-front stop. JR Kawatana Onsen Station is about 2 km away, which makes the bath easiest to add after a stay or meal in Kawatana, or on a driving day around Shimonoseki and Tsunoshima.

Admission is low; the empty-handed total is not ¥480

The family baths are charged per person, with four rooms upstairs and no advance booking. Solo visitors cannot use a family bath during the busy periods listed below.

Soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided in the family baths, but towels are not. If all four rooms are occupied, use the shared bath as the backup rather than treating a private session as a guaranteed appointment.

A compact bathhouse, not a full-scale sauna resort

The shared bath has an indoor pool, open-air pool, electric bath, mist sauna and cold plunge. That is a generous mix for a small local bathhouse, but the sauna is steam-based, not a high-temperature dry sauna with a rooftop lounge. Choose it for a local hot-spring stop, not for an all-day spa complex.

The spring is listed as Kawatana Onsen mixed water, a calcium-sodium chloride spring. Its analysis records pH 8.2, source temperature 42.8°C and a use-site measurement of 41.1°C. Those are two different measurements: 42.8°C is the source temperature, while 41.1°C is the value recorded at the analysis location. Neither establishes the year-round temperature of every indoor, outdoor, electric or family-bath pool.

The handling details are also more specific than the phrase “free-flowing” might suggest. The tourism association describes the family bath as free-flowing, while the spring information says the water may be heated in cold weather and treated with chlorine-based disinfectant for hygiene. Free-flowing water, seasonal heating and disinfection can all apply at the same facility. The available pages do not establish that every bath operates without treatment throughout the year.

Hours that matter for the family bath and rest room

The current listing gives general hours of 10:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m., with entry ending at 8:30 p.m. Family baths and the paid rest room close at 8:00 p.m. Arriving at 8:05 p.m. may still leave time for the public bath, but not for either of those options; after 8:30 p.m., do not plan on entering.

The regular closure is the first Thursday of February, April, June, August, October and December. Maintenance closures can also occur. The next scheduled closure after the date checked is October 1, 2026; check the current notice before making a special trip.

The facility prohibits smartphones in the bathing and changing areas, laundry, hair dyeing and dyeing shampoos. It also lists restrictions for guests who have been drinking, people using diapers and some health conditions.

The electric bath is limited to about three minutes per use. Guests with a pacemaker are advised to avoid it; follow the posted guidance if other health conditions apply.

The tattoo policy is not clearly published. Contact the facility before travelling if this affects your visit.

Getting there: allow for the walk or arrange a ride

From JR Shimonoseki Station, the San’yō Main Line journey to Kawatana Onsen Station takes roughly 40 minutes. From the station, Seiryusen is about 2 km away; a taxi takes around five minutes. With luggage, a child or an older companion—or on a rainy day—that final stretch is not an easy “walk from the station” assumption. Confirm a taxi for both directions if you do not have a car.

There is also a Sanden Kotsu bus from Shimonoseki toward Kawatana Onsen, with a ride of about an hour, but schedules and fares need to be checked for the day of travel. By car, the local tourism association lists about 30 free parking spaces. The bath works neatly after a Kawatana meal or overnight stay, or as a one- to two-hour break on a drive between Shimonoseki and Tsunoshima.

If you are choosing among the local facilities rather than deciding whether Seiryusen itself fits, see the Kawatana day-use comparison. For a quieter mountain-valley bath with sauna and cold plunge, compare Ichinomata Grand Hotel and its sister property, Kanko Hotel. Other options include Hakuen no Yu in Tawarayama, the Hagi onsen day-use comparison, Yuda Onsen and the Shimonoseki city bath guide.

If you want to compare the spring figures themselves, read how source and bath temperatures differ and what onsen spring classifications mean.

The source guide’s scorecard is an editorial rating, not an official inspection, so it is omitted here. For a guaranteed private booking or a dry sauna, compare the other Kawatana facilities instead.
