Kiwado Onsen in Nagato: A Sea-View Day Bath for ¥400

Kiwado Onsen Koryu Center works well as a short stop between Nagato’s coastal sights. The public facility sits on a rise overlooking Fukawa Bay, with Aoshima Island visible across the water. Admission is ¥400 for adults, and the outdoor bath is the main reason to choose it over a more elaborate spa.

These are the city tourism listing’s published terms. Special closures can still affect a particular day, so check Nagato City’s notices or call the center before making a long drive around it.
The view is better than the facilities list
The bathing area includes an indoor bath, an outdoor bath and a bubble bath. Both indoor and outdoor bathing are listed; the outdoor pool looks toward Fukawa Bay and Aoshima, with fishing lights sometimes visible after dark. There is also a large hall and other rooms, but those spaces can require a separate reservation and fee when booked for private use.
This is a modest community facility, not a resort-style super sento. The official listings do not describe a sauna or a private family bath. If those are essential, look elsewhere; if the aim is a straightforward sea-view soak at a public-bath price, Kiwado is a more distinctive stop than its size suggests.
What the spring data does — and does not — tell you
Nagato City and the Yamaguchi Onsen Association classify the water as an alkaline simple hot spring and list a source temperature of 31.2°C. That figure is not the temperature of the bathing pool. The published facility information does not set out the water treatment for each bath, so there is no sound basis for claiming every pool is flowing directly from the source or giving a fixed tub temperature.
An older outdoor-bath closure can also turn up in search results. Nagato City announced that water-quality issues had been resolved and the outdoor bath reopened on November 30, 2023. The current Nanavi listing still includes the outdoor bath. Separately, a boiler fault temporarily closed the facility in August 2026; the city announced repairs were complete and normal service resumed on August 7, 2026. Check for a newer notice before travelling, but those two past incidents are not evidence that the baths remain closed.
Getting there
From Nagato-Furuichi Station, the city tourism site estimates about 10 minutes by taxi; from Nagato-shi Station, allow about 20 minutes by taxi. The facility has 50 free parking spaces, making it easier to add to a coastal drive than to fit into a tight train itinerary.
Kiwado makes sense alongside northern Nagato stops such as Motonosumi Shrine or Senjojiki when you already have a car. For a different kind of day-use bath nearby, compare Yokikan in Yuya Bay.
Kiwado or Yokikan?
They suit different budgets and outings. Kiwado charges ¥400 for adults and has an indoor bath, an outdoor pool and a bubble bath. No sauna or private family bath is listed.
Yokikan charges ¥1,300 for day use and has a larger, inn-style bathing area with more features and reservation-based family baths. Kiwado fits a short, lower-cost sea-view stop on a northern Nagato drive. Yokikan makes more sense when bathing is a main activity and you will use its extra facilities or private room; the higher ticket is not simply a premium for the same experience.
