Matsuyama Onsen Guide: City Baths Beyond Dogo

Find a Matsuyama bath near the station, open late, or suited to a family visit. Compare Kisuke-no-Yu, Kume-no-Yu, Himehiko and Teiregi-no-Yu.

If you are staying near Matsuyama Station, travelling with children, or arriving after midnight, a bath elsewhere in the city may fit your day better than Dogo. The options range from large natural-hot-spring complexes to small neighborhood sento, and their prices are not directly comparable: some include towels and a place to rest, while others charge close to the prefectural public-bath rate.

The facility details below follow operator and public-agency listings reviewed on September 7, 2026. Hours and prices can change; confirm the individual venue before setting out.

Pick by the problem you need to solve

A private bath for a couple or familyHimehiko OnsenIt has 20 private-bath rooms, with different layouts and session lengths.
A half-day at a spa with towels and somewhere to unwindSora to MoriThe higher entry price includes towels, loungewear and lounge access.
A natural spring and sauna on a driving dayTeiregi-no-YuIt is south of central Matsuyama, has free parking, and uses a self-flowing spring in its gold-coloured outdoor bath.
A quieter, more traditional hot-spring visitGongen OnsenA smaller day-use bath with a documented flowing spring; it is easier to reach by car than by rail.

Near JR Matsuyama Station: Kisuke-no-Yu

Kisuke is the simplest choice if the station is already part of your route. The entrance is about a minute on foot from JR Matsuyama Station, and the bathhouse is listed as open from 5 a.m. until 2 a.m. The standard non-member adult rate is ¥850 on weekdays and ¥950 on weekends and public holidays. Sauna and bath admission are separate from overnight lounge use; the venue is not a hotel.

The facility combines natural hot-spring baths with several sauna and relaxation areas. Its official bath information identifies the Tsubaki-no-Yu as a source-fed, continuously flowing bath. That claim applies to the named bath, not automatically to every tub in the building. If you are comparing water quality, keep that distinction in mind.

For a bath before an early train, Kisuke is more convenient than travelling to Dogo. It also sells towels and toiletries, but they are not included in the standard entry fee. Sora to Mori is the better fit if you are deciding between a quick station-side visit and a longer spa stay.

Open into the small hours: Kume-no-Yu

Kume-no-Yu is the clearest pick when your schedule slips past midnight. It is about a three-minute walk from Iyotetsu Kume Station, and sauna use is included in the bathing fee.

DetailCurrent listing
Hours11 a.m.–9 a.m. the following day
Adult admission¥600
Early-bath rate¥500, 4–9 a.m.

Kume-no-Yu publishes its spring and water-treatment details. The listed source is an alkaline simple hot spring; the facility says the water is not diluted, is heated, circulated and filtered, and treated with chlorine-based disinfectant. The prefectural tourism listing describes the outdoor bath as source-fed, but that should not be stretched into a claim that every pool is continuously flowing.

That late timetable is useful after a concert, a delayed arrival or a long drive. Check the last train before choosing it, though—the bath may be open long after public transport has stopped.

Private bathing: Himehiko Onsen

Himehiko is the more direct option if everyone in your group wants to bathe together. Its 20 private-bath rooms range from a simple indoor soak to rooms with an outdoor bath, sauna or cold bath.

DetailCurrent listing
Public-bath hours9 a.m.–7 a.m. the following day
Adult admission, weekdays¥700
Adult admission, weekends and public holidays¥750

The published entry-level private room starts at ¥3,000 for 60 minutes. Other rooms cost more and offer different facilities, so check the operator’s private-bath page before choosing. The source listing says advance reservations are accepted on weekdays but not on weekends and public holidays; on busy days, ask about availability directly.

Himehiko is in Hatadera, not beside the station. Allow for the extra journey when comparing its private rooms with a bath in Dogo or a hotel facility.

A longer spa visit: Sora to Mori

Sora to Mori suits a slower visit better than a quick wash and soak. The standard adult admission listed for day use is ¥1,750, plus Matsuyama’s ¥150 hot-spring tax, for a base total of ¥1,900. Towels, loungewear and lounge access are included, along with a large manga collection. Rock-bath access has its own terms, so check the current visitor information if that is the reason for your visit.

Day use is listed from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., with last admission at midnight. Its location near Kume Station makes it reachable by tram, although it is not as close to the platform as Kume-no-Yu. The price is harder to justify for a short bath; it makes more sense when you plan to stay, eat or rest for several hours.

For drivers: Teiregi-no-Yu and Gongen Onsen

Teiregi-no-Yu

Teiregi-no-Yu is south of the city centre, where a car is more useful than a rail pass. The operator lists hours of 6 a.m.–midnight, with adult admission at ¥680 on weekdays and ¥790 on weekends and public holidays. There is free parking.

The distinctive feature is the gold-coloured outdoor bath, supplied by the self-flowing Minami-Dogo No. 1 spring. The published spring temperature is 40.5°C. The bathing area also includes other tubs, a walking bath and sauna facilities; do not assume every pool uses the same source or treatment method. The prefectural tourism page has shown older prices in the past, so use the operator’s current hours and fee page when planning.

Gongen Onsen

Gongen is a smaller day-use hot spring in the northern part of Matsuyama. The operator lists adult admission at ¥700, hours of 10 a.m.–10 p.m., and closure on the fourth Thursday of each month. Its hot-spring page describes the water as a continuously flowing natural source.

The trade-off is access: JR Horie Station is still roughly a ten-minute drive away. Choose Gongen for a quieter, traditional bath or a stay in the area, not as an easy detour on foot from the rail line. The bathhouse lists limited amenities, so bring your own soap and shampoo or check what is available at reception.

The neighborhood sento are a different kind of visit

Matsuyama’s 2026 city list identifies five active general public bathhouses: Kotobuki-yu, Shimizu-yu, Hakusenyu, Shinkai Onsen and Suishoyu. They are local bathhouses, not interchangeable with the larger natural-spring complexes above. The names alone do not establish that a bath uses a legally classified natural hot spring.

Ehime Prefecture raised the regulated adult ceiling for general public-bath admission to ¥500 from April 1, 2026. This is a ceiling, not a citywide fixed price; each bathhouse sets its own actual fee and may update it at a different time. Schedules also differ between listings. Kotobuki-yu’s morning opening, for example, is shown as 7:30 a.m. on Matsuyama City’s page but 6 a.m. on the bathhouse association page. If you are planning an early visit, call first.

One name to leave off your itinerary for now is Kofuji Onsen: Matsuyama City’s list still marked it closed on April 1, 2026. Check for an official reopening notice before relying on older map information.

For the five neighborhood baths’ hours, individual schedule conflicts and what each one offers, use the Matsuyama sento comparison. If your arrival or departure falls overnight, the early-morning and late-night bath guide separates actual bathing hours from overnight lounge access.

A quick way to decide

If you are moving through JR Matsuyama Station, Kisuke is the low-friction choice. For a soak between midnight and dawn, head to Kume-no-Yu; Sora to Mori’s overnight lounge does not mean its public baths remain open throughout the night. Families who need a private room should check Himehiko’s room type and weekend booking rules before travelling. Drivers can compare Teiregi’s larger facility with Gongen’s quieter setting.

For the historic bathhouses and transport in Dogo itself, start with the Dogo day-bath guide. These city options solve different timing and access problems, so there is no useful single “best onsen in Matsuyama” ranking.
