Okame no Yu in Soni: What to Know Before You Go
Okame no Yu near the Soni Highlands has outdoor baths, a sauna and ¥900 entry. Check the weekly bath rotation, Wednesday closure and seasonal bus from Nabari.
Okame no Yu makes the most sense after time in the Soni Highlands or as part of a drive through eastern Nara. Adult admission is ¥900, and the facility has outdoor baths, a sauna, a cold bath and at least one bath the operator identifies as flowing spring water. It is not a quick stop from Nara City: the countryside setting is the point, and public transport takes planning.
The water is listed as a sodium bicarbonate spring, with a source temperature of 42.5°C, pH 8.5 and a flow rate of 56 litres per minute. Those are source figures, not a promise that every pool sits at 42.5°C or receives untreated water. The operator confirms a kakenagashi bath, but does not publish the water-treatment details for each tub. If every bath being 100% source-fed matters to you, the available information does not establish that.
Two bath areas, with a weekly changeover
There are two bathing areas: the Wood Bath and the Stone Bath. They switch between men and women weekly, and both have outdoor pools. The Wood Bath’s panorama looks toward Mount Kabuto and Mount Yoroi; the Stone Bath faces the Soni Highlands and has a cascade-style bath. Photos online may show the other side from the one assigned during your visit, so check the current rotation if a particular view matters.
The complex also lists a sauna and cold bath. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cleanser, toner and moisturiser are provided, as is a hair dryer. Towels are not included: face towels are sold for ¥200 and bath towels can be rented for ¥110. A baby bath is available; ask the front desk for details.

The operator also lists razors, toothbrushes, hairbrushes and shower caps at ¥110 each. A day visitor who arrives without a towel would spend ¥1,210 on admission, a face towel and a bath-towel rental.
Hours, closing days and food

Wednesday is the regular closing day. If it is a public holiday, the facility opens Wednesday and closes Thursday instead. Year-end and New Year closures may also apply; check the current notice before travelling.
The in-house restaurant Okame-an lists hours of 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., with last orders at 7:30 p.m. Its hours are shorter than the bath’s, and the adjacent Farm Garden restaurant finishes much earlier: the current listing gives 10:15 a.m.–3:30 p.m. and notes that it may stop accepting guests sooner when busy. If eating on site is part of the plan, check which kitchen will still be serving before you settle in for a late bath.
The autumn bus works for the bath, but not a late highland visit
Mie Kotsu’s seasonal service runs October 1–November 30, 2026, between Nabari Station and the Soni Highlands area. It stops at Soni Kogen Farm Garden, beside Okame no Yu. The operator lists these Farm Garden arrivals:

The trailhead and Farm Garden are different stops. The last useful return is mid-afternoon, so this service does not suit a dusk hike followed by a soak.
Outside the autumn direct service, check routes and walking distances again. The bath’s official access page gives driving directions rather than a simple year-round rail-and-bus connection. By car, the operator advises visitors from Osaka or Kyoto to use Hari Interchange and Route 369; some navigation apps may suggest narrower roads.
For autumn 2026, a separate road notice lists construction-related restrictions on the Nabari–Soni prefectural road from October 1–31, followed by alternating one-way traffic in November. Check the notice’s time windows and detours before choosing the Nabari-side drive.
A couple of rules that can change the decision
Okame no Yu does not admit guests with tattoos, including small tattoos. Covering one with a supporter is not accepted either. The facility’s FAQ states this directly.
The two gendered bathing areas are communal. If you need a private bath, this is not the facility to book around.
