Onsen Near Kagoshima Airport: Hinatayama or Anraku?

If you have a few hours between landing and check-in, two hot-spring areas sit close enough to Kagoshima Airport to consider: Hinatayama, where the You Yu day bath stays open late, and Anraku, a hot-spring district with several separate inns and baths. By car, allow roughly 15 minutes to You Yu and around 20 minutes to Tsurunoyu in Anraku. Those estimates are useful for planning, not a reason to cut it close before a flight; rental-car pickup, refuelling and airport check-in still take time.

There is an important naming distinction. “Anraku Onsen” means an area in Kirishima, not one single facility. An earlier source linked that name to an inn in Yurihonjo, Akita, which is in a different part of Japan. The Anraku example here is Tsurunoyu, a specific day-use bath listed by Kagoshima’s official tourism site. Its hours and facilities should not be assumed to apply to every bath in the district.

The quick choice

Choose You Yu for a late bath, published prices and a separate private-bath option. Choose Tsurunoyu for a daytime visit to the Anraku area. Its admission fee is unconfirmed, so call before setting your budget.

You Yu is easier to plan around after a flight

Kirishima Bijin no Yu You Yu’s public bath is open to day visitors until midnight, with last entry at 11 p.m. The posted admission prices are:

Golden Week, Obon and New Year may have different rates; check the facility notice for those periods.

The public bath includes indoor and outdoor bathing areas. Towels cost extra: a face towel is ¥150 and a bath towel rental is ¥250. The facility’s rules prohibit entry to the public bath for people with tattoos or body art. If that applies to you, ask whether a private room has different rules; do not assume it is an exception.

You Yu also operates 11 private family-bath rooms. They are priced by time slot and day, separately from public-bath admission; the shortest listed weekday session is ¥1,700 per hour, while weekend and holiday rates are higher. Some private-bath bookings are accepted through the facility’s official LINE account or Jalan. Check the current room schedule and booking terms before travelling, especially for weekends. A private bath is a different product, not an add-on included in the shared-bath ticket.

The facility estimates about 15 minutes from Kagoshima Airport by car or taxi. Its current access page also gives a bus estimate, but does not clearly identify the airport bus stop and final walk for a day visitor. Kirishima City’s Myoken route does serve a stop called Hinatayama, though its published airport-to-stop trip is much longer than the facility’s estimate. Check the live timetable and walking route before choosing the bus; You Yu confirms that it does not run a pickup shuttle.

Tsurunoyu is one bath in the Anraku Onsen district

The prefectural tourism listing describes Tsurunoyu as a day-use facility in Makizono, Kirishima. Its posted hours are 8 a.m.–8:30 p.m., with last entry at 8 p.m.; it closes every Wednesday. The listing gives an airport drive of about 20 minutes and describes an indoor bath and a semi-outdoor bath. The outdoor bath is for men only, so groups should check the layout if they are choosing the place for that feature.

Tsurunoyu’s day-use fee is unconfirmed. Call 0995-77-2483 before leaving the airport to check admission, day-use access and directions to the entrance.

Kagoshima Kotsu’s Myoken route links the airport with Anraku and other parts of Kirishima. The posted airport departures reach Anraku at 11:28 a.m., 3:02 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Buses back from Anraku leave at 10:23 a.m., 12:42 p.m. and 4:27 p.m.

These are stop times, not door-to-door service to Tsurunoyu. Confirm the walk with the facility and check the timetable for your date. Arrange a taxi if the walk or return bus does not suit your group.

What works best without a rental car?

Public transport is possible, but it is not frequent enough to improvise after a bath. The Myoken route serves both the airport and the two areas, yet the posted timetable has long gaps. A missed departure can cost much of the afternoon, and a stop with the same name as a district does not prove that a particular bath is a short or easy walk away.

For You Yu, get the facility’s exact bus stop and walking directions before boarding. Its own access information quotes a short bus journey, while the city timetable’s Hinatayama stop is farther along the route; do not assume these refer to the same stop-to-door journey. For Tsurunoyu, ask the operator how to walk from the Anraku stop and whether that route is suitable with luggage or for anyone with limited mobility. If either answer is unclear, a taxi is the simpler airport connection.

If you plan to return to the airport the same day, check the outbound and return bus times together before buying anything or entering the bath. You Yu’s 11 p.m. last entry is helpful for a late arrival, but that does not make a late bus home available. Tsurunoyu’s earlier closing window is a better fit for a daytime stop, provided your flight schedule leaves enough margin.
