HOTEL Jogakura Day Trip: Bath Hours, Bus Times and Seasonal Access
Check HOTEL Jogakura’s day-use hours, ¥1,000 entry, suspended outdoor baths and seasonal bus times before planning a Hakkoda soak.
HOTEL Jogakura accepts day visitors from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with last entry at 2:30 p.m. Adult admission is ¥1,000.
As of September 28, 2026, the hotel’s latest notice still suspends its outdoor baths after a bear sighting and gives no reopening date. Plan around the indoor bath unless the hotel confirms the outdoor area has reopened before you travel.
The other constraint is getting there and back. JR Bus Tohoku changes between the autumn Mizuumi-go and winter Hakkoda-go schedules, and each has only a few departures at Jogakura. Choose a return bus first, then see whether the bath’s short day-use window fits.
What day visitors can use—and what they cannot
The indoor public bath has a mist sauna, cold plunge, rain shower and jet bath. It uses added water, heating and circulation rather than free-flowing spring water. The hotel suspended its normally spring-fed outdoor baths in a July 9, 2026 notice while safety checks continue. The indoor bath remains open; no reopening date has been announced for the outdoor baths.
Current day-use terms are straightforward:
| Item | Current listing |
|---|---|
| Hours | 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. |
| Last entry | 2:30 p.m. |
| Adult admission | ¥1,000 |
| Elementary-school child | ¥500 |
| Infant | ¥300 |
| Hand towel | Sold for ¥200 |
| Bath towel | Not rented for day visitors |
There is no private family bath, and day visitors cannot use a guest room to rest. Bring your own bath towel or be prepared to dry off with a hand towel. The hotel’s published hours do not include a seasonal opening calendar, so call ahead to confirm day-use availability for your date—especially if the outdoor bath is the reason for going.
Autumn bus: the 11:35 departure is the workable day-trip option
On the current September 18–November 17, 2026 timetable, not every bus serves Jogakura for the full season. The useful midday Mizuumi-go departure leaves Aomori Station at 11:35 a.m., calls at Shin-Aomori at 11:50 and reaches Jogakura at 12:58. For the services serving this stop, the schedule lists returns from Jogakura at 3:34, 4:19 and 4:49 p.m. The 11:35 outbound and the 3:34 return are both listed only through November 11.
That first return gives you just over two hours before the bus leaves, while the bath itself closes at 3 p.m. It is workable if you arrive with your bathing things ready and leave time to change and reach the stop. Do not treat the later returns as guaranteed on every date: check the operating-date column for each bus, not only the overall autumn timetable period.
The morning services arrive too early for day use: the 7:30 a.m. bus reaches Jogakura at 8:30, the 8:10 reaches at 9:10, and the 9:00 reaches at 10:00. Since the bath opens at 11:30, those options mean waiting around the hotel area for at least 90 minutes. They may suit a wider Hakkoda itinerary, but they are awkward for a bath-only visit.
Winter bus: reserve the ride from Aomori or Shin-Aomori
JR Bus Tohoku lists Hakkoda-go service from November 12, 2026 through March 31, 2027. The three scheduled departures from Aomori Station are 8:10, 9:20 and 10:50 a.m.; the latter two also stop at Shin-Aomori. They reach Jogakura at 9:17, 10:52 and 12:22, respectively. Reservations are required when boarding at Aomori or Shin-Aomori.
The 9:20 bus from Aomori reaches Jogakura at 10:52, ahead of the 11:30 opening. Its 1:35 p.m. return reaches Aomori at 2:38, leaving about two hours for bathing. The 10:50 bus arrives at 12:22, and its 2:55 return gives you little time before the bath closes at 3 p.m. The 8:10 bus arrives well before opening.
Reservations are not required when boarding Hakkoda-go at Jogakura for the return north. Snow, road controls and service changes can affect mountain buses, so check the date-specific timetable and the bath’s opening notice before travelling.
Driving in winter is not the same as crossing Hakkoda
The hotel estimates the drive from Aomori at about 50 minutes in normal conditions. In winter, Route 103 between the Acid-Yu Gate and Yachi Gate is fully closed, usually from late November to early April. Other mountain-road sections can also have overnight restrictions, generally between 9 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. from mid-December to mid-March.
Those closures do not by themselves mean you cannot drive from Aomori to HOTEL Jogakura. They do mean you should not plan a through-drive from the hotel toward Yachi or Lake Towada on the assumption that the summer route remains open. Check the prefecture’s current road information before leaving, allow for snow and visibility, and use winter tires. The hotel recommends them until late May.
The hotel’s complimentary shuttle from Aomori Station is for overnight guests: it must be booked at least three days ahead, picks up at about 3:30 p.m. and returns to the station at 9 a.m. Those times do not line up with the day-use bath, so it is not a day-trip transfer.
Is Jogakura worth a day trip right now?
Jogakura works for a sauna-and-indoor-bath visit if the seasonal bus timetable fits. Its spring-fed outdoor baths remain suspended, with no reopening date announced. Compare other facilities in the Hakkoda day-use guide or use the car-free bus itinerary to plan the wider route.
