Terrace Midoubaru, Beppu: Every Room Has a Private Semi-Open-Air Onsen
Compare Terrace Midoubaru’s room baths, floors and meal plans, plus arrival hours, access, age limits and accessibility.

Terrace Midoubaru keeps the room decision unusually straightforward: all 14 rooms are about 35 m², sleep up to three, and come with a private terrace and a semi-open-air natural hot-spring bath. You are not paying extra to move from a room without an onsen to one with it. The real choices are floor, meal plan and whether the hillside location fits your arrival time.
Compare the floor and meal plan, not the spring access
The rooms are Japanese-Western style, with a tatami sitting area and Western beds. First-floor and second-floor plans are sold in different meal combinations at times, but that is a booking-inventory pattern, not a permanent rule about which floor receives dinner or a better bath. Read the exact room name, cancellation terms and meal details before paying.
The guest-room baths use the Hōtta hot spring, described as a sulfur spring. The hotel does not clearly label them as free-flowing, so do not assume a source-fed supply or infer bath temperature from the source classification. The shared baths give you another setting, but the in-room bath already covers the private-soak part of the stay.

The arrival window shapes the evening
Check-in is listed from 3 to 5:30 pm, while dinner normally begins at 6 pm. If you have a dinner plan, aim to reach the inn with time to check in and settle before the meal. A late flight, a long day trip or a plan to eat downtown can leave little time to use the room and its bath.
Dinner is served at the inn’s restaurant, with some plans using the neighboring Galleria Midoubaru for an Italian course. Breakfast is Japanese-style. A two-meal plan makes sense if you want to stay on the hill after arrival; room-only or breakfast plans suit guests who have a car and their own dinner plan. Meal options can vary by date and room plan.
The public baths are gender-separated and listed as open from 3 to 11 pm and 7 to 10 am. They are a change of scene, not a substitute for private bathing: your own semi-open-air bath is already attached to the room.
A hillside stay, not a station hotel
The inn is about three minutes by car from Beppu IC and roughly 15 minutes from JR Beppu Station. It is not a practical walk with luggage from the station. Complimentary station pickup can be arranged in advance, but there is no fixed shuttle timetable; confirm the meeting point and time with the property. Parking is available, but confirm the current arrangement when booking.
Children in third grade or below are not accepted, and the property states that its rooms and common areas are not barrier-free. A first-floor room is not an accessible-room guarantee. Ask about the route, steps, bathroom and bath entry if anyone in your party has limited mobility. If you are still choosing a base, the Beppu stay-area guide compares the hillside with Kannawa and the city center. For another detached, private-bath stay, see Beppu Showaen’s cottage guide.
Terrace Midoubaru is a good fit when a private bath and a view are the point of the evening, and you can arrive before dinner. It is a poor fit for a child below the stated school-grade limit, a late arrival or anyone who needs step-free access throughout the property.
