Yufuin Sonata: A Guesthouse With Two Private-Use Hot-Spring Baths

Current room listings show shared bathrooms; the attraction is the two hot-spring baths, an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, which guests use privately. If your main goal is to avoid bathing with strangers, that can be enough. If you need a shower or toilet attached to your room, choose somewhere else.

Two baths, shared among the guesthouse

The current site for sister property Hoshi no Sato describes Sonata’s indoor and outdoor baths as private-use and fed by natural hot spring water. “Private-use” describes how each bath is used; it does not guarantee the room is empty at the time you arrive. Ask at check-in how to reserve or check availability, and avoid planning around a particular bath slot unless the property confirms one.

The rooms are for sleeping, rather than private bathing. Room sizes and bed or futon arrangements vary, so choose by party size and sleeping preference. If someone in your group would rather shower than use a hot spring, check the shared bathroom arrangement before booking.

Location and meals

The current sister-property site puts Yufuin Station at about a 20-minute walk, Lake Kinrinko at roughly five minutes, and Yunotsubo Street at around three minutes. Those numbers make Sonata more convenient for the lake and shopping street than for a luggage-heavy rail arrival. A taxi is worth considering if you do not want to walk with bags.

Plan to eat in town or make simple arrangements yourself rather than expecting an included kaiseki dinner. The guesthouse has been listed with a shared kitchen, but equipment and rules can change; confirm what is available if you intend to cook rather than just store snacks.
