Yufuin Day-Use Onsen: Three Baths, Three Different Days
Choose Musouen for a broad outdoor bath and short afternoon window, Yufudake for lower admission and seasonal hours, or Sansuikan for station access.

Yufudake Onsen is a simpler, lower-cost public bath with a seasonal timetable. Sansuikan is the practical station-side option when its afternoon admission window fits your train.

Musouen: do not arrive late in the afternoon
The draw is the scale of the outdoor bathing and the view toward Mount Yufu. Day visitors can use the men’s and women’s outdoor baths, and the inn also lists family baths that are used without advance reservations when vacant. A vacant door is the only guarantee; there is no booked time slot to protect a tight schedule.

Weekly cleaning affects particular baths on different days. Weather, maintenance and filming can also change availability; check the inn’s current notice before travelling, especially in winter.
Yufudake Onsen: the lower-cost stop with a seasonal clock
Yufudake Onsen is a standalone day-use facility with indoor and outdoor public baths, plus family-bath rooms.

The operator may vary hours with weather, and the closing day is irregular.
Sansuikan: the station-side option, if afternoon works
Sansuikan is the easiest of these three to combine with a station-area walk. The current day-use page lists admission from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at ¥1,000 per adult and ¥500 per child, including a small towel. The men’s and women’s baths are different facilities, and standard admission does not include a private bath. Holiday-period hours can be shorter, so check the date-specific notice if your visit falls around year-end or another special period.
A simple way to fit one soak into a day
If you are arriving by train, check the bath’s last admission before you plan lunch or Lake Kinrinko. Musouen’s window ends earliest; Yufudake closes at 5 p.m.; Sansuikan begins at 1 p.m. and sits nearer the station. Build in the ride or walk, time to change, and a return buffer. None of the three listings confirms a universal tattoo policy. If that matters, ask the facility directly before setting out. Also verify the bath is accepting day visitors that day; an online timetable is not a promise that every tub will be open.
