Which Yufuin Ryokan Fits Your Onsen Plans?
Compare spring type, source data and bath setup at six Yufuin ryokan, then see how seven popular inns differ by room and location.
Checked: September 30, 2026 “Has an onsen” is too broad to compare six inns. Some put a spring bath in every room; others centre the stay on shared baths, with private-use baths available only when vacant. The table separates source data from bath arrangements so you can compare what each property actually offers.
Spring water and bath setup at six Yufuin inns
Values below refer to spring sources when published; they are not bath-water readings. “Not published” means no value appears in the cited records. A source-flow description does not specify whether bath water is heated or diluted.

The six inns differ most in where you bathe. Tamanoyu and Sansuikan include an indoor spring bath in every room; Kaze no Mori adds an outdoor bath to every room. Ubl limits private indoor spring baths to ten special rooms. Musouen and Baien put the emphasis on large shared baths, with family-use baths on site.
The figures come from different records: Musouen gives 62.5°C for mixed source water, while Yufu City’s inventory lists named sources for Tamanoyu, Sansuikan and Ubl. They are not a controlled comparison. Baien’s onsen page identifies its spring type and source-flow arrangement but gives no pH or source temperature.

For a private open-air bath in the room
Gettouan is the simplest match: every one of its 18 detached rooms has a private outdoor bath. Its wooded setting is part of the stay, though. The station transfer is not a casual walk, and the inn currently says its shuttle service is suspended, so include a taxi in the plan.
Tanokura gives every room an in-room spring bath, but only five rooms have a dedicated outdoor bath. If a private soak is enough, a standard room may meet the need; the outdoor category matters when you specifically want fresh air and an open setting. Its position near Lake Kinrinko works well for an early walk.
At Ubl, only ten special rooms have a private indoor spring bath. That is a separate room category, not an open-air bath.
If using a shared private bath is enough
Hoteiya, Hana no Mai and Baien offer private-use baths without requiring a room with its own tub. Hoteiya’s two baths use 40-minute sessions when vacant; Hana no Mai’s private-use baths are first-come; Baien’s family baths are free for overnight guests and have no time slots. None of the three lets you reserve a specific bathing time.
Nihon no Ashitaba is different again: its on-site baths are used privately, but guest-room bath facilities vary across its thirteen cottages. It suits a stay where moving around the grounds and choosing among baths is part of the evening. Check the named cottage before booking if a bath inside the room is essential.
Choose the location after the bathing format
Hana no Mai and Hoteiya keep you closer to the central walking area. Tanokura is by Lake Kinrinko; Baien’s garden and baths reward time spent on site. Gettouan and Nihon no Ashitaba are more retreat-like and bring a larger transfer or on-property walking commitment. If an early train, luggage or a walk to dinner matters most, compare the Yufuin stay areas. For a short soak from the station, use the walkable day-use onsen guide.
Before booking, check the exact room category, bath water, indoor or outdoor layout, meal plan, cancellation terms and transfer. For first-come private-use baths, plan as though a preferred time may not be available.
