Terao no Yu: A Low-Cost Onsen Stop in Fuefuki
Terao no Yu has indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna and cold plunge for ¥700. The former local bus ended in March 2026, so plan a car or taxi.
Checked: September 27, 2026
Terao no Yu sits on the Sone Hills in Fuefuki, away from the hotel cluster around Isawa Onsen. It makes sense as a stop on a driving day around Kofu’s southern edge or Fuefuki, rather than as an easy add-on from the train station.
The basic facilities are unusually complete for a municipal bath: indoor and outdoor pools, a cold bath and a sauna are all part of admission. Visitors from outside the eligible neighboring cities pay ¥700. The catch is access: the Sakai River community bus that once served the facility stopped running on March 31, 2026.
What admission covers
The current city listing gives an outside-city adult price of ¥700 and ¥200 for elementary-school children; younger children enter free. Residents of Kofu, Fuefuki, Yamanashi and Koshu qualify for the lower resident rate. Groups of 11 or more may qualify for a separate advance-booked rate, but it is not a walk-in discount.
Opening hours are 10 am–9 pm, with last admission at 8:30 pm. Wednesday is the regular closing day; if it falls on a public holiday, the following day is closed instead. The facility also closes December 29 through January 3.
The city classifies the spring as an alkaline simple sulfur spring and lists a source temperature of 33.6°C and pH 9.6. Those are source-water figures, not published temperatures for the pools. The city does not provide a current pool-by-pool temperature or a complete water-treatment breakdown, so there is no basis for describing every bath as untreated source water.
Check the family rules before setting out
Anyone who routinely wears a diaper is not allowed in the communal baths, regardless of age. That includes adults who need diapers as well as young children who have not toilet-trained. Children aged seven and older may not bathe with a parent of the opposite sex.
Terao no Yu’s posted rules cover diapers and mixed-gender bathing by age, but say nothing about tattoos. Contact the bathhouse before you go if you need to know whether tattoos are allowed; nearby baths may have different rules.
Getting there now
By car, the city says the bath is about five minutes from Kofu-Minami Interchange. Parking is listed for 50 regular vehicles and five large vehicles.
Do not follow an old timetable that shows the Sakai River community bus stopping at Terao no Yu: Fuefuki ended that service on March 31, 2026. The city’s replacement on-demand service, Noruto Fuefuki, is for residents, not a general tourist shuttle. Yamanashi Prefecture’s tourism listing gives a taxi ride of about 20 minutes from either Kofu Station or Isawa-Onsen Station. For a no-car visit, that taxi cost can easily outweigh the admission price.
If you are already driving through the area, Terao is a straightforward place to add a proper bath and sauna. For a trip based around public transport, compare it with the more station-friendly options in the Isawa Onsen day-bath guide.
