Suehiroyu in Oimachi: A Bona Sauna and Craft Beer at a Tokyo Sento
Four minutes from Oimachi Station, Suehiroyu pairs an octagonal washing area with a Bona sauna, cold bath and craft beer at the front desk.
The octagonal washing area is the first clue that Suehiroyu has kept some of its old character through a 2022 reopening. The practical upgrades are easier to spot once you are inside: the men’s sauna was expanded, cold baths were added on both sides, and the front desk serves craft beer. It works especially well as an after-work or post-run stop near Oimachi Station.
Bona sauna, cold bath and indoor rest
Suehiroyu’s Bona sauna has its heating equipment beneath the benches and floor grating rather than a prominent stone stove in the room. Recent user readings put the room around 88–95°C, though the temperature varies. It is a dry sauna, not an automatic- or self-löyly room. The concentrated heat can feel especially strong around the feet and lower benches, so there is no benefit in trying to stay longer than feels comfortable.
The cold bath was added during the 2022 renovation. Recent visitors have reported readings around 14–17°C, but those are dated observations rather than a fixed setting. Resting spots are indoors; there is no dedicated outdoor-air area. That is a trade-off on a warm day, but it also means the cool-down space is sheltered from rain and wind.
The bathhouse has several standard tubs, including jet, reclining, electric and micro-bubble baths. It is not listed as a natural hot spring, and there is no outdoor bath or high-concentration carbonated pool.

From Oimachi Station, allow about four minutes on foot. The Tokyo Sento Association notes that the bathhouse resumed operations on 16 December 2022 after being taken over and renovated. It retained the octagonal wash area while updating the sauna and water baths.
Beer and the neighbourhood-bathhouse rhythm
Two taps at the front desk serve rotating craft beers, alongside canned options. The brewery selection can change, so treat it as a post-bath extra rather than a fixed menu. Suehiroyu also runs a weekly Friday running club; it is worth checking the operator’s current posts if you want to join. Finish the sauna and bathing before drinking, and rehydrate first.
If you are looking for a more expansive sauna setup or natural spring water, Suehiroyu is not the right product. For a close-to-the-station sento where a good sauna, familiar neighbourhood scale and a beer afterward fit into one evening, it is a more specific match. Nearby options include Tokyo-yokujo and Matsunoyu.
