A late bath in Tamatsukuri: check the last entry and the ride back

Find which Tamatsukuri baths still admit day visitors after 9 p.m., their last-entry times and why the return trip to Matsue needs planning.

The closing time can be misleading: each bath stops admitting day visitors earlier. If you reach the hot-spring district after 9 p.m., Yuyu is the only one of these four facilities with a regular entry window still open. Even there, last entry is 9:20 p.m. and the doors close at 10, so it is a quick soak, not an unhurried evening.

FacilityAdult day-use feePublished hoursLast entry
Yuyu¥60010 a.m.–10 p.m.9:20 p.m.
Matsunoyu¥1,30011:30 a.m.–9 p.m.8:30 p.m.
Hotel Gyokusen¥2,000 evening rate on the hotel page6–9 p.m.8:30 p.m.
Tamatsukuri International Hotel¥700Noon–9 p.m.; Tuesdays 3–9 p.m.8 p.m.

Hotel Gyokusen’s listing on the local ryokan association site gives an evening price ¥150 above the hotel’s own rate. Check the current price when you call or arrive. Matsunoyu’s day-use service can also pause for cleaning, maintenance or busy hotel dates; its listed schedule is not a guarantee that it will admit visitors every day.

Which bath still works at your arrival time?

Before 8 p.m., all four are possible, subject to that day’s service. Tamatsukuri International Hotel sits by Lake Shinji rather than in the central riverside hot-spring district, so it is a better fit if you are driving or have planned that stop in advance.

At 8 p.m., the International Hotel is at its last-entry cutoff. Matsunoyu and Hotel Gyokusen give you a little more time, but their cutoff is only 30 minutes later. If you are not already close to reception, head for Yuyu instead of trying to squeeze in another transfer.

At 8:30 p.m., Matsunoyu and Hotel Gyokusen have reached their last-entry time. Yuyu is the practical option. Arriving at 9 p.m. still leaves a 20-minute check-in window, but you will have less than an hour before closing for changing, washing, bathing and getting dressed. Travelling with children or someone who needs more time? Aim to arrive earlier.

After 9:20 p.m., none of these facilities offers a reliable walk-in option. Don’t plan around entering just before closing: the posted last-entry time is the cutoff for admission, not the start of a full bathing session.

Getting back matters more than the closing time

If you are staying in the hot-spring district, you can walk back to your inn. From Matsue, check the current Ichibata Bus timetable before setting out. Buses stop running well before Yuyu closes, so a late soak does not come with a bus ride back.

Plan on a taxi, a train from JR Tamatsukuri Onsen Station or an overnight stay nearby. The station and central bath district are separate places, so allow time for the transfer.

Matsunoyu’s FAQ gives a taxi ride from the station as roughly six minutes and about ¥800, but treat that as the inn’s estimate, not a guaranteed fare or proof a taxi will be waiting. Arrange a car before bathing if your return depends on one. The inn’s guest shuttle is for overnight stays and should not be counted on for a day visit.

Yuyu normally opens until 10 p.m. and closes on Mondays (or Tuesday when Monday is a public holiday). Check its calendar, as a weekly closing day changes the late-night fallback. For sauna and towel details, use the facility pages: Yuyu’s early-morning session is bath-only, and Matsunoyu’s overnight sauna hours do not extend a day visitor’s admission window.

If the return trip is awkward, come earlier or stay nearby. The day-use comparison covers the wider set of baths; the car-free half-day plan looks at transport before you go.
