Which Tamatsukuri ryokan bath is worth a day visit?
Compare day-use bathing at Kasuien Minami, Hotel Gyokusen and Matsunoyu by current listed hours, admission, towels, sauna and bath access.
The ¥600 public bath at Yuyu is hard to beat on price. A ryokan day ticket makes more sense if you want the larger hotel-bath setting, a landscaped view, included towels or a sauna. Three inns handle day visitors differently: Kasuien Minami has a short window on three days a week, Hotel Gyokusen splits admission into daytime and evening sessions, and Matsunoyu stays open later.

Minami has limited day-use hours. The association says day visitors use the first-floor public bath only; the upper-floor panoramic bath is not part of the day ticket.

Gyokusen has two public baths that rotate between men and women, along with outdoor baths. Its evening session includes complimentary soft drinks in the lounge.

Matsunoyu has the longest day-use window of the three, which leaves room for a walk or meal in the hot-spring district.

What the ticket does—and does not—include
At Minami, the day-use ticket buys a visit to the first-floor public bath, not access to every bathing area shown on the inn's spa page. Its upper-floor panoramic bath opens from 3 p.m., after the listed day-use window ends. The official spa page also describes a low-temperature sauna in the women's bath, but the day-use listing does not promise sauna access. If that is the reason for your visit, ask which facilities are open to day guests that day.
Gyokusen is unusually clear about its spring-water handling. It lists Tamatsukuri water at 66.8°C at the source and 42°C at the point of use, with water added, heating and recirculating filtration. Those numbers describe the source and the listed use point, not a guaranteed temperature in every tub. The gender-separated public baths rotate, so the bath and sauna arrangement available to each guest may depend on the schedule.
Matsunoyu's shared public bath uses Tamatsukuri hot-spring water. Its four bookable outdoor private baths are a separate product: the inn says they use heated ordinary water, not natural onsen water. They are not included in the public-bath ticket and need a separate booking. If you need to bathe together in natural spring water, none of these three day-use tickets should be treated as a confirmed solution; check the private-bath comparison before making plans.
Towels, parking and other small details
Minami and Gyokusen loan bath towels without charge. At Matsunoyu, a face towel costs ¥100 and bath-towel rental is ¥200. This is separate from the admission price; Matsunoyu still offers a much longer bathing window.
If driving to Matsunoyu after 2:30 p.m., use the free parking area at the entrance to the hot-spring district, as the inn requests. Its operating days are irregular; call or check its notice before making it a fixed stop. Minami's listing likewise asks day visitors to use the district's free public parking, and warns that cleaning or maintenance may change the bath assignment.
