Juraku Onsen in Kitakagaya: A Neighborhood Sento with a Garden and Rest Room

Juraku Onsen reopened in 2023 with soft-water baths, a garden, Wi-Fi and tatami rest room. Closing times conflict across listings, and no sauna is listed.

Juraku Onsen opened in 1963 and closed in 2021, after 58 years in the neighborhood. It returned on February 26, 2023, under the nearby Sanpōkai medical group, which runs Nanko Hospital. The revival kept a local bathhouse going rather than introducing a new spa concept; the operator also heats the bath using biomass fuel made from locally collected waste wood.

The bathhouse sits about five minutes from Kitakagaya Station on the Yotsubashi Line. There is no dedicated parking listed, so it is easiest to reach on foot or by subway. If you have been exploring Kitakagaya’s art spaces and former warehouse district, it can work as a low-key local stop before dinner.

The closing-time listings do not agree

The Osaka Public Bath Association’s page, updated July 6, 2026, says 3–11pm, with Wednesdays off. However, a March 2026 interview with the current operator and a September 2026 shop listing give shorter hours: 3–9pm on weekdays, Sundays and public holidays, and until 10pm on Saturdays. A separate bathhouse directory also shows a shortened schedule, though its hours differ slightly.

There is no clear operator notice confirming a formal change, so the sources cannot be reconciled with confidence. For planning, use 9pm as the weekday/Sunday closing time and 10pm on Saturday; call ahead if you need a later visit. The standard adult entry is ¥600, with ¥200 for elementary-school children and ¥100 for younger children.

What is available inside

The association lists soft-water baths, an electric bath, jet bath, rest area, garden, free Wi-Fi, drinks and ice cream. It also describes a bar-counter-style front desk made from the former ban-dai. No sauna, cold bath or outdoor bath appears in the current facility list, so this is not the place to choose for a sauna session.

The second-floor tatami room is described as a space for resting. That does not establish that bathers can sleep there overnight, so do not treat it as a capsule hotel or an alternative to accommodation. The operator also hosts occasional local events there; on event days, it may be busier than a simple after-bath lounge.

The front counter reuses the traditional raised bandai layout, while the upstairs room can be rented for workshops or meetings and has hosted community programs, including a travelling onsen-music concert in June 2026. The venue has also promoted aroma events and a runner-friendly sento program. These are occasional activities rather than daily services, so check the operator’s announcements if an event is part of your reason to visit.

Shampoo and body wash are normally available, according to the operator’s 2026 activity information. Towels are not a standing free amenity; the special runner event had its own towel offer. There is no dedicated parking listed, so use the subway or check nearby paid parking before driving.

The bathhouse association calls the water soft water. That describes the bathing setup, not a documented natural hot spring. No current source analysis is published in the facility listing.

Choose it for the pause, not the sauna

Juraku Onsen suits someone who wants a short local bath followed by a sit-down break. Compared with Hime-matsu Onsen, it is the better fit for a garden-side pause and a room to rest; Hime-matsu is the more equipment-focused choice. If a sauna or a longer outing matters more, compare the larger natural-spring facility in the Spa Suminoe guide or browse the Osaka sento guide.
