Spa Suminoe: A Late-Night Natural Hot Spring in South Osaka
Spa Suminoe closes at 2 a.m. with last entry at 1 a.m.; towels cost extra, tattoos are barred and re-entry requires staying inside.
Spa Suminoe is a useful South Osaka option when the evening is not over at dinner. The bath complex runs from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., with last admission at 1 a.m. Its spring comes from roughly 700 metres underground and is listed at 35.1°C at the source. That is the source temperature, not the temperature of every tub; the facility does not publish complete heating, circulation and disinfection details for each bath.
Admission includes the baths and sauna; towels are extra.
| Guest | Weekday | Weekend or public holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | ¥800 | ¥900 |
| School-age child | ¥400 | ¥450 |
| Infant | ¥200 | ¥220 |
These tickets cover bathing only, and the complex closes at 2 a.m. (last admission 1 a.m.); there are no overnight rooms. The bathing tax and seasonal notices can change the total, so check current rates before a near-midnight visit.
The 35.1°C figure is the source temperature, not the temperature of each bath. The operator does not publish a complete treatment schedule for every pool.
Pick the outdoor side by the weekly rotation
The outdoor areas are called Mori no Tsuboyu and Chikurin no Yu. One is arranged around rocks and planting; the other has a bamboo-grove setting. The two bath areas switch between the men’s and women’s sides weekly on Mondays. If you have your eye on one particular setting, check which side has it during your visit instead of relying on an old photo.
There are several sauna types, including a high-temperature loyly sauna and lower-temperature options. Children are not allowed in the high-temperature loyly room; the salt sauna and seated fine-particle sauna are permitted under the facility rules. Tattooed guests are refused entry, with no cover-sticker exception stated in the current visitor guide.
The facility also has a cold bath and indoor pools. The outdoor settings alternate sides every Monday, so check the weekly rotation if you have a preference.
Staying for a second bath changes the plan
Same-day re-entry to the baths is allowed if you ask reception for a hand stamp. Once you leave the property, you cannot come back in for another soak. In practice, that means you can bathe, eat or rest inside, then return to the baths; you cannot go shopping nearby and return later.
The onsite restaurant is open 11 a.m.–11:30 p.m., with last orders at 11 p.m. For a late visit, that kitchen cutoff arrives well before the baths close. Towels and a bath towel should be brought along; rentals are available, but current rental prices were not clearly listed on the main visitor page.
The nearest rail access is Suminoekoen Station, served by the Yotsubashi subway line and the New Tram. That puts the spa on a practical route from South Osaka, the port area and parts of central Namba. A special trip from far north Osaka just to save on admission can eat up the price difference in transit.
A few rules worth knowing before bringing children
Children who are not toilet-trained cannot enter the baths. Mixed bathing is not allowed for children of elementary-school age and older, and anyone under 16 without a guardian must leave by 7 p.m.; unaccompanied guests under 18 must leave by 10 p.m. Wheelchairs can be used as far as the changing area, not inside the bathing area. These limits are more relevant to family planning than the facility’s low child ticket.
There is no listed private family bath, so groups needing a private soak should make a different plan. For a more extensive facility near Tsuruhashi, Nobeha no Yu Tsuruhashi offers reservable family rooms, though its rules restrict them to family members.
The nearest rail access is Suminoekoen Station, served by the Yotsubashi Line and New Tram. The facility is not open 24 hours; late-night admission carries a surcharge from midnight.
