Kyoto Fushimi Sento Guide: Eight Baths, Four Different Rail Areas

Choose among eight Fushimi sento by area: Chushojima and Fushimi-Momoyama, Fukakusa, Mukaijima, or Ishida and Daigo.

Fushimi is too spread out for “near Fushimi Station” to help much. Some sento are close to Keihan’s Chushojima or Fushimi-Momoyama stations; others are by Fujinomori, in Mukaijima, or beside the Tozai Line at Ishida. Choose based on where you will travel afterward, then compare hours and facilities. The association lists eight sento in Fushimi Ward; its 82-bath directory covers the whole city.

Start with the rail area you will leave from

Your last stop or accommodation areaBath to check firstWhy it may fit
Chushojima and the sake-district streetsShinchi-yuClose to Chushojima; three baths, a cold bath and mist sauna; closes at 10 p.m.
Kangetsubashi and Fushimi-MomoyamaKotobuki-yuAbout five minutes from Kangetsubashi and ten from Fushimi-Momoyama; has dry and mist saunas.
MukaijimaKangetsu-yuOpens at 9 a.m. on Sundays and stays open until midnight.
Fukakusa and FujinomoriGunjin-yu or Takara-yuGunjin-yu stays open until 11 p.m.; Takara-yu closes at 9:30 p.m. and shuts Fridays and Saturdays.
Otsu-choKurama-yuThe name can be confused with the mountain village of Kurama; this bath is in Fushimi Ward.
Kagesho-cho and the western sideTsuru-no-yuOne of the two Fushimi listings with an outdoor bath.
Ishida and DaigoYu-topia DaigoBeside Ishida Station’s Tozai Line exit 4; it has an outdoor bath and opens at 10 a.m. on Sundays and holidays.

These are starting points, not a citywide ranking. In particular, Yu-topia Daigo is still in Fushimi Ward but is not a practical substitute for a bath by Chushojima. The same applies in reverse: if your hotel is near Ishida, there is little reason to cross town for a better-known station name.

The association does not publish a last-admission time for every bathhouse. Treat the listed closing time as the end of business, not a promise that you can arrive just before then. Check the individual listing for temporary notices before setting out.

The details that change the choice

After a sake-district walk: Shinchi-yu is the nearest fit to Chushojima. The association describes its three tubs, cold bath and mist sauna, and says it heats groundwater from Fushimi’s brewing district. That is a useful local water detail, but groundwater is not proof of a legally classified hot spring. For the distinction, see how to tell whether a Kyoto sento uses natural hot-spring water.

Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum in Fushimi

A Sunday morning soak: Kangetsu-yu in Mukaijima opens at 9 a.m. on Sundays and is listed until midnight. Yu-topia Daigo starts at 10 a.m. on Sundays and holidays, with the Tozai Line’s Ishida Station exit 4 almost at its door. If your route is around Kyoto Station rather than Fushimi, use the station-area sento guide instead of making a cross-city detour.

A sauna or outdoor bath: Kotobuki-yu is listed with both a sauna and a mist sauna. Tsuru-no-yu and Yu-topia Daigo are the Fushimi baths with an outdoor-bath listing; both also list a sauna. The broader Kyoto sento sauna guide compares heat styles across the city, but its shortlist is not a substitute for choosing the right neighborhood.

Avoiding an early closing: Takara-yu closes at 9:30 p.m. and is closed Friday and Saturday. Shinchi-yu closes at 10 p.m.; Gunjin-yu stays open until 11 p.m. Kangetsu-yu and Yu-topia Daigo are listed to midnight. That can settle the choice faster than comparing the number of tubs.

Basic admission and visitor policies

The Kyoto bathhouse association lists ordinary adult admission at ¥550, with standard children’s rates shown separately in its bathing guide. Kyoto Prefecture also runs a time-limited free-admission program for children under elementary-school age through March 31, 2027; it requires an accompanying adult and the program’s application process. Check the current terms before relying on that offer. Towel rental or purchase and other amenities are set by each bathhouse, not included as one ward-wide package.

Do not assume every facility has the same tattoo or child-bathing rules just because these are ordinary neighborhood sento. The listings do not give a single Fushimi-wide policy. If either detail affects your visit, contact the bathhouse directly.

For a natural-spring outdoor bath in the south of Kyoto, the relevant comparison is not one of these eight neighborhood sento: see Fushimi Chikara no Yu, a larger day-use facility near Takeda Station.
