Ura-Kusatsu TOU: Room Baths, Private Onsen and What to Check Before Booking
Only four Deluxe rooms at Ura-Kusatsu TOU have in-room hot springs; standard rooms have showers, with four paid private baths as another option.
TOU is often mentioned for its central location and Jizo spring. The booking decision is more specific: do you want a bath in your own room, or would one reserved session in a shared private bath be enough? Those are different room plans, and the second is not included with a Standard room.
The room choice comes down to where you want to bathe
There are four Deluxe Western-style rooms, each 55 m² and listed for up to four guests. They have a semi-open-air bath supplied with Jizo spring. The other 52 rooms are 33 m² Standard Western-style rooms, also listed for up to four people, with a shower room rather than an in-room onsen.
That makes the Deluxe upgrade useful for guests who want to bathe late at night, first thing in the morning or several times without leaving the room. If you only need one private soak, compare the Deluxe rate with a Standard room plus a private-bath booking instead. Check the exact room name and bath description on the checkout page; “Western-style” or a larger floor plan alone does not mean the room has an onsen.
Four private baths, booked after check-in
Guests in either room category can reserve one of four private baths. The rooftop pair are Sui and Oboro; Moku and Ao are on the first floor. Reservations are made by scanning a QR code provided at check-in, and the listed operating window is 3pm to 10am the following day. Rooftop baths may close in bad weather and can have seasonal restrictions, so they are not a year-round guarantee.
The latest posted rates are ¥4,500 for either first-floor bath and ¥3,000 for either rooftop bath. These prices took effect on January 1, 2025. Availability and charges can change, so confirm with reception before building a Standard-room budget around a particular time slot.
The shared bath, Tō-no-yu, is open from 3pm to 1am and again from 5am to 10am. Its silky bath is not hot-spring water. TOU identifies Jizo as its spring source and lists a pH of 2.1 and a source temperature of 48.4°C; the published “98 L/min” figure is not defined further, so it should not be read as the hotel’s allocation.
A dated bathing interruption to know about
TOU has announced a Jizo spring supply interruption on November 18, 2026, from 9 a.m. until around 4:30 p.m. Bathing hours will change around the work: guests staying November 17 must finish by 9 a.m. on the 18th, rather than 10 a.m.
For arrivals on November 18, bathing starts at 5 p.m. instead of 3 p.m. The end time may shift with the maintenance work. If your stay overlaps, check the hotel’s notice before travelling.
Yubatake is close; the walk is not flat
The hotel describes Yubatake as about a three-minute walk away, with the bus terminal also roughly three minutes on foot. That is handy if you expect to pop back into the centre after dinner. The route through Ura-Kusatsu includes slopes and narrow streets, though, which can make the short distance less comfortable with a wheeled suitcase, limited mobility or winter ice.
There is no parking at the building. The hotel’s off-site lot is about five minutes away, offered first come, first served, and available from noon on arrival day until noon the next day. If it is full, guests are directed to a nearby paid lot. The hotel advises winter tyres for December through April.
Meals have set seating times
Restaurant TOMORI serves a creative kaiseki dinner with several cooking styles, including French techniques. Dinner seating starts at 5:30pm, 6pm, 8pm or 8:30pm, with a two-hour limit. Breakfast is a set meal, with one-hour seatings starting at 7am, 7:30am, 8:30am or 9am. Lunch and restaurant-only visits are not offered; dining is for staying guests.
Allergy accommodation is limited to seven specified ingredients and must be requested at least three days before arrival, after booking. The hotel prepares meals in a shared kitchen and does not guarantee that allergens are fully removed. Guests with serious allergies should contact the property before reserving a meal plan.
