Is Kusatsu Onsen Inn Eidaya a Good Fit? Private Baths, Room Types and Stairs
Eidaya offers three private baths and selected rooms with spring tubs; most rooms lack an in-room onsen, and stairs may affect access.
Eidaya sits about a ten-minute walk from Yubatake, Kusatsu’s central hot-spring field. Its strongest draw is the choice between a shared public bath, three bookable private baths and a small number of rooms with a natural-spring bath of their own. Check the exact room name before booking; a bathroom in the room does not automatically mean an onsen.
Private bathing without paying for an onsen room
The inn’s water comes from the Bandai-kō source and flows through the baths without recirculation. Guests can book one of three private baths at no extra charge. Use is arranged after check-in, so a preferred time is not guaranteed in advance.
The current Japanese hot-spring page describes the source as pH 2 and uses the phrase “nothing added or removed.” It does not publish a fixed current tub temperature; in-room baths can be adjusted by changing the water flow. Keep the spring reading separate from the temperature of a particular bath. The public bath is available between check-in and checkout, except during cleaning.

For a bath you can use privately whenever you like, select a room explicitly described as having a natural hot-spring bath. Eidaya offers several such Western-style rooms, including a semi-open-air twin and a triple, as well as a detached maisonette. The 2026-renovated Simple Modern Room has a system bath, not spring water. Read the room description rather than relying on a generic “private bathroom” label.
The stairs affect the whole stay
Eidaya is a renovated older inn, and the route from reception to guest rooms and baths involves stairs. One room is on the ground floor, but that does not make the entire property step-free. Ask the inn about the route to the bath and the location of the specific room if anyone in your party has mobility needs or is carrying bulky luggage.
The walk from reception to the public bath also uses stairs. If that is difficult, a private bath is not necessarily an easier option; confirm its access before booking.
Getting there and arriving in time for dinner
Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal is about an eight-minute walk or two-minute drive from Eidaya. The inn offers free pickup; call after reaching the terminal and expect a wait if staff are collecting another guest. Tell the inn in advance if you need the ride. Yubatake is about ten minutes on foot.
Snow and ice can make winter walks difficult; drivers may need snow tires or chains. Free parking is available. The inn has previously allowed parking before check-in and after checkout; confirm this for your dates.
Check-in starts at 3 pm and runs until 10 pm. If your plan includes dinner, arrive before 6 pm: guests arriving later are not served dinner, and the meal is not refunded. That makes an earlier bus a safer choice for dinner plans; a room-only booking leaves more room for a delayed arrival.
Dinner begins at 6 pm. Breakfast starts between 8 and 8:30 am. Children are accepted; the listed meal guidance says children under six can have a kids’ meal, while elementary-school children receive an adult-based meal with some dishes reduced. Pets are not accepted. If you need a specific room location for a child, older traveller or mobility aid, ask before booking rather than relying on a general room description.
The property’s seven-point ratings are bathing comfort 90, bath variety 95, cleanliness and maintenance 85, atmosphere 75, quiet 90, transport convenience 90 and overall value 95. The bath and value scores reflect three free private baths and selected in-room spring rooms; the stairs and older building remain important practical checks.
