Family Onsen in Hiroshima: Diapers, Mixed Bathing and Private Baths
Compare child rules at Honoyu Ujina and Rakurakuen, including diaper guidance they don’t publish, with Seare’s weekend-only private spring bath by reservation.
Bath admission and permission to enter are separate questions for young children. Honoyu Ujina and Rakurakuen set age and height limits for mixed-gender bathing; if your child still wears diapers, call before using a communal bath. Seare in Saka offers a private natural-spring bath on weekends and public holidays. Ask about the room’s capacity and child arrangements when reserving.
Honoyu Ujina and Rakurakuen: age and height set the bathing rule
Both facilities open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last entry at 10 p.m.
| Child admission | Honoyu Ujina | Honoyu Rakurakuen |
|---|---|---|
| Under age 3 | Free | Free |
| Age 4 through preschool | ¥150 | ¥150 |
| Elementary school | ¥500 | ¥600 |
Children in Grade 3 or above, or at least 120 cm tall, cannot use mixed-gender bathing. The rule applies if either threshold is met, so a child may need to bathe separately from a parent before reaching the other one.
The facilities also sell a ¥500 basic bath ticket, but it excludes the designated outdoor spring baths, sauna and cold bath. Full admission costs:
| Facility | Weekday | Weekend or public holiday | Designated busy day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honoyu Ujina | ¥1,000 | ¥1,100 | ¥1,200 |
| Honoyu Rakurakuen | ¥1,050 | ¥1,150 | ¥1,250 |
Neither Honoyu branch publishes a rule for children who still wear diapers, so call before taking a toddler into the communal bath. Ujina has no family or private bath. Rakurakuen’s public pages do not list a day-use private bath.
The ¥500 basic ticket at either branch excludes the designated outdoor spring baths, sauna and cold plunge. The full-admission rates are listed above. Under-three admission is free, but the facility pages do not state whether children in diapers may use the shared baths; confirm before travelling.
Seare has a private natural-spring room on selected days
Asian Resort Spa Seare is about a three-minute walk from JR Saka Station. The train ride takes about 16 minutes from Hiroshima Station or 26 minutes from Kure Station. The facility is open 24 hours, though bathing stops for cleaning from 8 to 10 a.m. It usually closes on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; holiday dates may differ.
| Seare day-use detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Admission | Adults ¥1,200; children aged 4 through elementary school ¥750 |
| Overnight entry surcharge | ¥1,000 for entry between 1 and 5 a.m. |
| Private-room availability | Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays; reservation required |
| Private-room bath | Outdoor bath with natural spring water in continuous flow; bathing only, no bedding |
| Private-room rate | ¥4,000 for 2 hours or ¥6,000 for 3 hours, per room, plus admission |
The operator does not publish the room’s capacity, full schedule or whether a ¥500 basic ticket can be combined with the private-room booking. Call 082-886-3345 to confirm availability and whether the room suits your group. The published private option is for weekends and public holidays.
Seare’s sodium-chloride spring comes from about 1,000 metres underground. Only designated baths use it, and the private outdoor room is described as a source-fed flow-through bath. At Honoyu in Ujina, the outdoor source bath and rock bath use undiluted spring water. Rakurakuen lists a source depth of about 1,100 metres and a flow of 392 litres per minute for its outdoor spring area. Check the ticket type before paying if you want one of these specific baths.
For facility rules and ticket differences, see the Honoyu Ujina and Rakurakuen comparison and the Seare and Yamato comparison.
Before travelling, check the current closure and equipment notices as well as the regular timetable. Seare has a daily 8–10 a.m. bathing-room cleaning break and monthly closure dates; the Honoyu branches also post date-specific maintenance and pool outages. A regular 9 a.m. opening does not guarantee every outdoor bath is operating on that particular day.
