Getting to Yunokawa Onsen from Hakodate Airport, Hakodate Station or the Shinkansen
Compare a direct airport bus, ¥290 tram or local bus from Hakodate Station to Yunokawa; use the Hakodate Liner from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto.

Yunokawa Onsen is not one stop with every hotel clustered around it. The tram terminus, the Yunokawa-onsen tram stop, the seaside inns and the Tropical Botanical Garden side are all different arrival points. Check the hotel’s street address against its nearest bus or tram stop before choosing a route—especially with luggage.
From Hakodate Airport: go straight to the right side of Yunokawa
Hakodate Bus lists three useful options from the airport:
| Destination | Service | Approximate ride | Adult fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yunokawa Onsen / Tropical Botanical Garden area | Route 96 | 16 minutes | ¥280 |
| Yunokawa Onsen / Tropical Botanical Garden area | Route 5 | 9 minutes | ¥300 |
| Yunokawa-onsen tram stop | Routes 7A / 7B | 14–18 minutes | ¥280 |
Routes 96 and 5 stop around Yunokawa Onsen and the botanical garden. The 7A/7B service is the more direct airport-to-tram connection if your hotel is near the streetcar line. These are different stops, so do not choose by ride time alone. The bus operator’s page notes that timings vary by service, and a winter timetable change is scheduled for October 1, 2026; check the live search for your travel date.
If the hotel offers a transfer, compare its pickup point and operating hours with the public bus before deciding. A courtesy shuttle can be useful, but it may be limited to overnight guests or specific arrival windows.
From Hakodate Station: tram for simplicity, bus for a closer drop-off
| Service from Hakodate Station | Approximate ride | Adult fare | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tram to Yunokawa-onsen | 30 minutes | ¥290 | Hotels near the tram corridor; the route is easy to follow |
| Hakodate Bus 95, 95A or 96 | 15–17 minutes | ¥310 | Yunokawa Onsen and Tropical Botanical Garden stops |
| Hakodate Bus 8 | Similar to routes 95/95A/96 | ¥400 | Check the stop closest to your hotel |
| Hakodate Bus 5 or 5A | About 28 minutes | ¥400 | A direct bus option from the station |
Check the stop against your hotel address. A slightly longer ride can save a cold or awkward walk with a suitcase.

From Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto: connect through Hakodate
The Hokkaido Shinkansen arrives at Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, not Yunokawa. The JR Hakodate Liner connects Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto and Hakodate Station in about 15–22 minutes. From Hakodate, continue by tram or local bus according to your hotel’s location.
Hakodate Bus also lists services from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto to Hakodate Station, with journey estimates that vary by route. Those are useful if the train connection does not fit, but they do not turn the shinkansen station into a stop inside Yunokawa. Allow time for the transfer in Hakodate rather than planning a near-zero connection.
Which stop should you use?
Start with the hotel pin, not the name of the district. Hotels around the tram stop suit the streetcar route; properties on the coast or near the botanical garden may be closer to a bus stop. If the hotel’s own site names a particular stop, follow that guidance and confirm walking directions in the current map.
For a location-based view of the district, see where to stay in Yunokawa. If you already have a Hakodate base and are deciding whether a day bath is enough, the day trip or overnight comparison lays out that choice.
