Day-Use Onsen Around Mikuni and Tōjinbō

Near Tōjinbō, choose Yuaport for a late bath, Kyukamura for a short daytime window or Mikuni Ocean Resort for weekday evenings. Compare hours, fees and access.

After Tōjinbō’s cliffs and seafood, it is tempting to head straight back to Fukui or Awara. Mikuni has three distinct bathing options, though, and they solve different problems: Yuaport is inexpensive and stays open late, Kyukamura is a daytime coastal detour, and Mikuni Ocean Resort has the feel of a hotel bath.

PlaceAdult admissionDay-use hoursWhat to know
Tōjinbō Mikuni Onsen Yuaport¥50010:00–23:00; last entry 22:30Near Mikuni Port Station and Sunset Beach; tattoos not allowed
Kyukamura Echizen-Mikuni¥90011:30–15:00 last entry; closed TuesdaysGarden outdoor bath near the coast; towels cost extra
Mikuni Ocean Resort & Hotel¥800Weekdays 13:00–22:00; weekends and days before holidays last entry 16:00Hotel-style baths, outdoor bath and sauna; weekend window is short

Yuaport: the practical choice after sunset

Yuaport is beside Mikuni Sunset Beach, a short walk from Mikuniminato Station. Adults pay ¥500; children through primary school pay ¥200. It opens 10:00–23:00, with last entry at 22:30, and closes on the third Wednesday of each month (or the following Thursday when the Wednesday is a holiday).

The public baths include a sauna, cold bath and washing area. Shampoo and body wash are provided, but towels are sold or rented separately. Payment is cash only. Tattooed guests are not admitted under the facility’s rules; no cover-sticker exception is listed.

Yuaport makes the most sense when you have spent the day in Mikuni or at Tōjinbō and want to finish at the beach before a soak. Its late closing time gives you more room to adjust than the other two options.

Kyukamura: a daytime window, not an evening bath

Kyukamura’s Ariso-no-yu has a large-window indoor bath and a garden-side outdoor bath near the coast.

Day-use detailsCurrent listing
Adult admission¥900
Children aged 4 through primary school¥600
Children under 4Free
Visitor hours11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.; Tuesday maintenance closure
Bath-towel rental¥310
Face towel¥220 to buy

The day-use window ends in mid-afternoon, so fit Ariso-no-yu into a daytime route north of Tōjinbō rather than saving it for sunset. The property has posted temporary interruptions before; check its current notice before making a special trip.

Mikuni Ocean Resort: weekday evenings are the advantage

The former Mikuni Kanko Hotel now operates as Mikuni Ocean Resort & Hotel. Its public baths include tatami flooring, an outdoor bath, a sauna and a cold bath. Adult day-use admission is ¥800, including tax and bathing tax; children aged four through primary school pay ¥400, while younger children are free.

Weekday day-use runs 1–10 p.m.; on Saturdays, Sundays and the day before a public holiday, last entry is 4 p.m.

The hotel is uphill from Mikuni Station, about a 10–15-minute walk. A taxi may be easier with luggage or limited mobility.

Mikuni Ocean Resort permits a tattoo only if one 8 × 10 cm cover sticker, supplied by the guest, conceals it completely. Yuaport does not allow tattoos. Kyukamura’s page gives no tattoo guidance, so call the resort before visiting if you need to know its rule.

Older listings may call it Mikuni Kanko Hotel; the property adopted the Mikuni Ocean Resort & Hotel name on June 30, 2023. Use its current day-use rules rather than carrying over an old schedule.

Fit the bath around the route

If Tōjinbō is the main event, Kyukamura needs to happen before the afternoon is over. For an evening return to Fukui, Yuaport’s station-side location and later admission are less fiddly. Mikuni Ocean can fit well on a weekday after exploring the old port area, but its weekend entry cutoff makes it a poor last-minute choice.

None of the three needs to be forced into a same-day bath crawl. Pick one based on when you leave the coast, whether you have a car, and how much time you want in the bath. See the Echizen Coast comparison for more southern coastal options, or the Awara day-use guide for the neighbouring hot-spring area.

Three simple routes work better than trying all three baths: head from Tōjinbō to Kyukamura, then continue toward Awara Onsen Station; detour through Mikuni Minato and finish at Mikuni Ocean Resort before returning to Fukui; or walk to Sunset Beach and use Yuaport as the late-day stop. Without a car, Yuaport is the easiest of the three from Mikuniminato Station. Check the day’s bus or train connections before committing to the other two.

The spring descriptions are not interchangeable either. Mikuni Ocean Resort identifies an alkaline simple spring and says it uses both flowing and circulated water, with heating. Yuaport is confirmed as a natural hot spring, but its current pages do not publish enough source or treatment detail to call every bath “100% free-flow.” Kyukamura’s public information likewise does not settle each bath’s water handling; ask the facility if that distinction matters to you.
