The important distinction is easy to miss in room listings: the bathroom in the guest room is not an onsen. The hot spring is in the hotel’s public outdoor baths and its two private-use baths.
How to fit the stay around arrival and bath times
Check-in is listed from 3 to 6 p.m.; call the hotel if you expect to arrive later. The station shuttle requires advance booking. Current inbound departures are listed at 3, 4 and 5 p.m.; for a morning drop-off, notify the front desk after you arrive and use the service between 9 and 11 a.m. If those times do not work for your train, allow for a taxi rather than assuming the shuttle runs on demand.
The two private-use baths, Kawaishi and Hinoki, are free for guests and are reserved at check-in. The listed booking window runs from 3 to 11 p.m. in set slots. Ask on arrival, especially if using one is a priority; availability is not the same as a guaranteed time unless your specific plan says otherwise.
Room bath or hot spring? The distinction matters
The hotel’s room categories include private bathrooms, but the official room information describes their water as heated tap water. They are not guest-room hot springs. Guests who want natural hot-spring water should use the hotel’s public outdoor baths or reserve a private-use bath.
The outdoor baths are source-flowing and sit on the mountain and road sides; there is no indoor public bath listed. Room layouts and bed arrangements vary, from twin rooms to a family room with two double beds and a sofa bed. Check the named category and occupancy rules before booking rather than assuming every room has the same layout.
Autumn is a setting, not a fixed foliage date
The hotel’s tree-lined setting makes the outdoor baths the natural place to look for seasonal colour, but no room or date can guarantee peak foliage. Leaf timing changes from year to year, and the mountain-side and road-side baths may not look the same on the same day. Treat autumn colour as a bonus; choose the property for its bath arrangement and transport first.
For guests with tattoos, children or mobility needs, ask the hotel directly about the current bathing and room rules. A private-use bath may help with privacy, but it does not by itself establish every policy. The grounds and route to outdoor facilities may also matter if walking is difficult.
