Villa Amahata’s Suzuri no Yu: A Day-Use Bath in Hayakawa’s Amehata Valley

Suzuri no Yu costs ¥700; its 14.7°C mineral spring is heated and treated, and public transport requires a pre-booked transfer at Oshima.

Checked: September 27, 2026

Suzuri no Yu sits inside Villa Amahata, a mountain retreat built on the former grounds of Suzurishima Elementary and Junior High School. It is a reasonable stop if Amehata and its inkstone-making heritage are already on your route. It is a less convenient detour for a quick soak from town, especially without a car.

Day-use details

Hayakawa Town lists regular bathing hours as 11 am–7 pm; Thursday is the weekly closing day. Non-resident admission is ¥700 for adults and ¥300 for children.

A rest-and-bathing plan costs ¥1,000 for adults and ¥500 for children. Towels are not included in day-use admission, so bring your own or confirm what is available for purchase.

The spring is a simple sulfur-bearing cold mineral spring: 14.7°C at the source, pH 7.1. The town’s spring table says the bath is heated, circulated, filtered and disinfected. Those details are worth keeping distinct from the word “natural”: the spring water is natural, but the bath is not a 100% source-flowing soak.

Bath layouts differ by side. The women’s bath is listed with one indoor pool and one outdoor pool. The men’s side has two indoor pools with different temperature settings; the published equipment list does not show an outdoor bath there. If an outdoor bath is essential, confirm the current arrangement rather than assuming the same facilities on both sides.

Check the calendar, not just the weekly closing day

The long renovation closure at the beginning of 2026 ended in March. A separate maintenance closure ran from June 30 through July 2, with reopening announced for July 3. The latest calendar available when checked covered May through September, so it does not settle dates beyond that period. Since Villa Amahata also announces occasional maintenance days, confirm the current calendar or call before making the mountain trip.

For a short soak, the ¥700 admission is enough. The extra ¥300 for the rest plan may make sense after a drive through the valley or while waiting for a transfer, but private-room or hall rental is a separate facility arrangement and should not be assumed to come with the basic bath ticket.

Getting there without driving

The route to Amehata takes an extra step. Hayakawa’s shared bus runs between Minobu and the Narada area; at Oshima, visitors heading to Amehata need to change to the reservation-based Amehata-Oshima shared taxi. The town says reservations should normally be made by 7 pm on the previous day. Arrange the return transfer as well, and check that the bus and taxi times connect before booking the bath into your day.

By car, the operator’s access details place the facility about 17 km from the Shimobe-Onsen Hayakawa interchange, roughly a 20–25 minute drive in normal conditions. This is a mountain road, so weather and road notices still matter.

If spring water treatment is your main criterion, Yushima no Yu has a different source-flowing setup. The Hayakawa day-use overview compares several facilities and their restrictions.
