Kohmeisen in Nakameguro: Rooftop Bath, Weekly Side Swap and Late Hours
Three minutes from Nakameguro Station, Kohmeisen has carbonated baths, dry sauna and a rooftop pool. Only one bathing side has it; the sides switch Fridays.
Kohmeisen works well as an after-dinner stop: it is close to Nakameguro Station, stays open until 1 a.m., and has a rooftop bath above the main bathing floor. That rooftop is the detail to plan around. Only one side has it, so check the current weekly assignment before setting out; the men’s side has it from September 25 through October 1, 2026.
The rooftop is the reason to check the calendar
Kohmeisen’s outdoor bath sits on the third floor, in a wood-screened rooftop space. It is not a panoramic city viewpoint; the appeal is being able to step outside for air after a bath or sauna while still in central Tokyo. The outdoor area belongs to one gender’s bathing side at a time. Kohmeisen changes the assignment weekly on Fridays, so older reviews may describe the opposite side from the one in use now.
There is also a scheduled closure for renovation from October 5 to 8, 2026. Confirm the operator’s latest notice if your visit falls near those dates.
A compact sento, not a natural hot spring
The indoor baths include a high-concentration carbonated bath and an artificial radium bath, along with a cold plunge. These are functional baths rather than evidence of a natural spring; the facility does not present a natural hot-spring source. The dry sauna is heated from below the seating, without an automatic water-pouring cycle. Temperatures reported by visitors vary, so there is no reason to treat a single reading as a fixed specification.
Kohmeisen reopened after a major renovation in 2014. Its white surfaces, wood details and indirect lighting feel more contemporary than a traditional neighbourhood bathhouse, but the scale remains that of a local sento. It is a useful fit if you want a straightforward soak and sauna after dinner, rather than a full-day spa.
What a visit costs and what to bring
Adult bathing is ¥600 under Tokyo’s current public-bath tariff. The sauna is an additional ¥300 and includes large and small towels, bringing an adult bath-and-sauna visit to ¥900. Shampoo and body soap are not supplied free in the bathing area; bring your own or buy small packets at the counter. Towel rentals are available separately.
Hours are 3 p.m.–1 a.m., with last entry at 12:30 a.m. The bathhouse is about a three-minute walk from Nakameguro Station on the Tokyu Toyoko and Tokyo Metro Hibiya lines. Kohmeisen lists no fixed weekly closing day, so check its site for notices before heading over.
