Tokinoirodori in Inagi: Which Baths Use the Free-Flowing Spring?

At Tokinoirodori, two outdoor pools use free-flowing spring water. Adult entry is ¥1,000 weekdays or ¥1,200 weekends; Minami-Tama Station is a five-minute walk.

Tokinoirodori is easy to reach for a natural hot-spring day out, but the useful distinction is which bath uses which water. The facility identifies two free-flowing spring pools outdoors: the rock bath and the shallow reclining bath. Other pools either recirculate the spring or use well water. If kakenagashi is the reason you are going, head for those two outdoor baths rather than assuming every pool has the same supply.

The spring and pool-by-pool distinction

The source is a sodium bicarbonate and chloride spring drawn from about 1,700 metres underground. The facility lists a source temperature of 40.4°C, a flow rate of 308 litres per minute and pH 7.84. Its outdoor rock bath and reclining bath are marked kakenagashi. The “relaxing bath” and the spring carbonated bath recirculate source water; several colour, jet, reclining and carbonated pools use circulating well water instead.

The spring carbonated bath is still spring water, but it is recirculated and infused with carbon dioxide. That makes it a different option from the open-air free-flowing baths. Inside, there are also jet and electric baths, a cold bath, an automatic-löyly sauna and a herbal mud-and-salt steam sauna. On weekends and holidays, the seasonal bath may include fresh fruit or flowers.

A short train walk; bedrock bathing is for a longer visit

JR Nambu Line’s Minami-Tama Station is about five minutes away on foot. Buses stop near the facility at Shiroyama Park.
