Kosugiyu Harajuku: A Morning Sento with Three Simple Baths
Visit Kosugiyu Harajuku before the shops open: current sento prices, milk, hot and cold baths, Chikaichi access and why there is no sauna.
Kosugiyu Harajuku is a neighbourhood bathhouse tucked inside the Harakado building at the Meiji-jingumae crossing. It opens before the shops, which makes it a useful first stop before a day around Harajuku, Omotesando or Meiji Shrine. The bath menu is intentionally small: milk bath, hot bath and cold bath, with an indoor rest space between rounds. There is no sauna.
Three baths, with temperature doing the work
The signature milk bath is around 41°C and has a gentle milk scent. The hot bath is set at about 44°C, while the softened-water cold bath is around 18.5°C. The point is a simple warm-cool sequence rather than a sauna circuit or a long menu of themed pools. There is also a small indoor place to rest between baths.
The milk bath is a scented, moisturising bath, not a tub filled with fresh milk. The hot bath may feel intense if you are not used to Japanese sento temperatures; take it slowly and skip the cold bath if a sharp temperature change does not suit you.
Going before Harakado opens
Kosugiyu is open 7 a.m.–11 p.m., with last entry at 10:15 p.m. Thursday is the regular closing day. From Meiji-jingumae Station it is about a one-minute walk; JR Harajuku Station is around four minutes away.
During the early opening window, 7–11 a.m., use the Meiji-jingumae Station Exit 7 side and the M1F elevator to reach B1. The shopping floors open later, so the regular mall entrance route may not work.

There is no sauna surcharge because there is no sauna. The bathhouse is not a natural hot spring, and its public information does not list a private bathing area or large-luggage storage.
Chikaichi is part of the stop, not a lounge pass
The basement level, Chikaichi, has space to pause and occasional cultural or community events. It is not the same as a large spa’s all-day rest hall with indoor clothing and recliners. Event baths and pop-ups—such as seasonal baths, photo displays or workshops—are date-specific. Check the current programme if you are visiting for a particular activity.
Chikaichi hosted a WONDER PHOTO SHOP in July 2026, then a Harajuku Omotesando Super Yosakoi event in August with yuzu and herbal baths, a photo display, beer stand and children’s workshop. Both were temporary. Kosugiyu’s public information does not state a clear tattoo policy; ask the bathhouse before visiting if that affects entry.
For a sauna, choose a different bathhouse. For an ordinary sento that fits naturally into a Harajuku itinerary, Kosugiyu’s early opening and station access are the main practical advantages.
