Shimoda Prince Hotel Day-Use Onsen: Hours, Seasonal Closures and Access
The ocean-view day bath costs ¥1,500 on selected dates in 2026–27. Check the summer and New Year closure periods before planning a visit.

Shimoda Prince Hotel sits above Shirahama Beach, and the main appeal of its day-use onsen is the view from indoors. The bath has a roughly 10-metre-wide picture window facing the Pacific and the Izu islands. You can watch the water without dealing with sea wind or a rocky shoreline.
The general day-use bath has seasonal closures. In the 2026–27 season, it is unavailable from July 1–August 31, 2026 and December 26, 2026–January 3, 2027. Overnight stays and summer facilities follow separate schedules.

What the bath is like
The indoor lookout bath has a picture window about ten metres wide, facing the Pacific and the Izu islands. It works well after a beach walk or a day around Shirahama, especially if you would rather not travel into central Shimoda for a soak.
Overnight guests have separate early-morning bathing hours; public day visitors start in the afternoon, or at 3 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The spring is classified as a weakly alkaline simple spring.
Getting there from Izukyu-Shimoda Station
Tokai Bus takes about 15 minutes from Izukyu-Shimoda Station to the Shimoda Prince Hotel stop, then it is a five-minute walk. The one-way fare is ¥430. A taxi takes around 10 minutes and costs about ¥2,600.
The hotel also runs a free shuttle, but reservations are required and its published conditions frame bookings around hotel guests. Do not count on it for an ordinary bath-only visit without asking first. The bus or taxi is the safer plan to price into your day.
If you are visiting Shirahama in summer, keep in mind that the public onsen’s exclusion period overlaps with the beach season. Make a separate bathing plan before you leave Shimoda Station; hotel pool or overnight facilities are not a substitute for a public day-use ticket.
Tattoos, children and access questions
Bath-only visitors may face tattoo restrictions. The “Surf’s Up!” room plan does not allow tattooed guests in the onsen. Whether small tattoos or cover patches are accepted is unconfirmed; ask the hotel about your booking.
Children who still wear diapers cannot use the bath. Children aged seven or older may not bathe with someone of another gender. Ask the hotel about step-free access or a shower chair before travelling if either is needed.
For a different kind of coastal bath, see the Atagawa Prince Hotel day-use guide. Shimoda Prince is the better fit when you are already near Shirahama and want an indoor sea view, provided your date falls within the public day-use calendar.
