Yubune in Setoda: A Post-Ride Sento on the Shimanami Kaido

Yubune on Ikuchi Island has a Tuesday evening-only window, weekend rates, sauna and cold bath. Check ferry access and what the sento ticket leaves out.

Yubune is a useful stop when Setoda is already on your route. The bathhouse sits in Shio-machi Shopping Street on Ikuchi Island, about a minute on foot from Setoda Port, with an indoor bath, jacuzzi, sauna and cold bath. It is a well-designed local sento attached to a small inn—not a documented natural hot spring or a full resort-spa ticket.

Check the day-use window before choosing a ferry

Yubune’s bathing hours and day-visitor hours are not the same. The inn’s own guests can use the bath earlier; day visitors have these windows:

DayDay-use bathingLast admission
Wednesday–Monday10 a.m.–8 p.m.7:30 p.m.
Tuesday5–8 p.m.7:30 p.m.

Tuesday is the easy day to misread: the bath opens to overnight guests in the morning, but day visitors cannot enter until 5 p.m. If your boat leaves Setoda before then, Yubune will not fit that day. On the other days, the 7:30 p.m. last admission still matters even though the listed closing time is 8.

What the bath ticket covers

The site does not specify the age cutoffs between the child and infant fares; ask if you are visiting with young children. Children who have not outgrown diapers may not bathe. Soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided. Golden Week, August, and the year-end/New Year period use special rates; check the official price page for those dates.

Yubune has an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and cold bath. It lists no sauna or cold-bath temperatures, and has no current spring analysis.

Yubune is a sento, not a documented natural hot spring. A past lemon- or salt-bath event was seasonal and does not establish a natural spring. See how sento, onsen and super sento differ for the terminology.

Yubune also has an upstairs yuagari lounge, library and shop, but the current day-bath price list does not say that these are included with admission. There is no restaurant on site; the inn encourages visitors to eat at nearby shops. If you need a place to work, have a meal or rest for an extended stay, ask the facility what day visitors may use before building your plans around the lounge.

Getting there after a ride or boat crossing

Yubune is at the entrance to Shio-machi Shopping Street. Its access map lists a high-speed boat from Onomichi Port taking about 40 minutes, or from Mihara Port taking about 25 minutes; from Setoda Port, the walk is about one minute. These are the facility’s route-map estimates, not a live sailing timetable, so check the boat operator’s schedule and the last return sailing for your date.

The bathhouse is an easy stop on the Shimanami Kaido, but bike arrangements need a separate check. Yubune says overnight guests in its ground-floor Doma rooms may bring a bicycle into the room. That lodging amenity does not establish where a day visitor can leave a bike; the public bath information does not specify cycle parking.

Contact the inn if secure bike storage is essential. Drivers are directed to the municipal car park, and the access page does not list on-site parking for day visitors.

The address is 269 Setoda, Setoda-cho, Onomichi, Hiroshima. For general route planning across the region, see the Onomichi–Fukuyama day-bath comparison. If you are comparing newer bathhouse concepts elsewhere in Japan, the modern onsen guide looks at several different formats.
