Six Sento Around Namba, Tsuruhashi and Shinsekai: Which Osaka Bath Fits Your Route?

Six neighborhood baths serve central Osaka. Suehiro-yu is by Kuromon Market; Tateba stays open until 5am, while Tojo Onsen suits a stop after Tsuruhashi.

Around Namba and Shinsekai, a neighborhood sento can be a faster, cheaper stop than a large spa. Six public baths are spread across Chuo, Tennoji and Naniwa wards. Don’t assume that a shop name containing “onsen” means it uses certified natural spring water.

BathBest forListed hours and weekly closure
Suehiro-yuKuromon Market and Nihonbashi06:00–01:30; Monday closed
Tojo OnsenTsuruhashi after dinner15:00–22:30; Friday closed
Healthy Onsen TatebaA genuinely late bath14:00–05:00; open daily

Kinpira OnsenTaisho and Sakuragawa’s west side13:30–24:00; Tuesday closed
Healthy Onsen SakuragawaSakuragawa Station and an early start06:00–24:00; open daily

The standard adult bath price is ¥600. Sauna access, towels and other extras depend on the shop, so the base admission is not an all-in ticket.

The Osaka Public Bath Association’s current directory lists one active bath in Chuo Ward, one in Tennoji Ward and four in Naniwa Ward. Older maps may still show Chuo’s Shimizuyu or Iroha-yu, or Tennoji’s Taishoyu. They are not included here because the current ward listings do not confirm them as operating baths.

If you’re around Nihonbashi or Kuromon Market

Suehiro-yu is almost next door to Nihonbashi Station Exit 8—about a one-minute walk. It opens at 06:00 and runs until 01:30, so it can work before the market opens or after dinner. Its high-temperature steam sauna, cold bath and electric bath are included at the standard bath price. Monday is its regular closing day.

For a late finish: Tateba, not “somewhere open late”

Healthy Onsen Tateba is the latest option on this list: 14:00–05:00, every day. It has dry and steam saunas, an outdoor bath, carbonated bath and 40 free parking spaces. The catch is the walk: allow about ten minutes from Sakuragawa, Shiomibashi or Ashiharabashi stations. If you need a bath after midnight, that extra leg may be worth it; if you’re already near Nihonbashi, Suehiro-yu is easier.

Shinsekai, Sakuragawa and Tsuruhashi have different answers

Radium Onsen is three minutes from Ebisucho Station. Its outdoor bath looks toward Tsutenkaku, and the shop opens from 06:00. “Radium” in the name is not evidence of a natural radioactive spring; the listed features are a steam sauna, carbonated bath, medicinal bath and outdoor bath. It closes on the second and fourth Thursdays.

Healthy Onsen Sakuragawa is the easier railway stop on the Sakuragawa side: about two minutes from Sakuragawa or Shiomibashi stations. It also opens at 06:00, stays open daily until midnight, and lists both dry and steam saunas. For dinner around Tsuruhashi, Tojo Onsen is a five-minute walk from the station, with a dry sauna, cold bath, jet bath and reclining bath; it closes Fridays and shuts at 22:30.

Kinpira Onsen is the quieter, less equipment-led choice for the Taisho side. It is about ten minutes from Taisho Station and opens 13:30–24:00 except Tuesdays. It is a straightforward option when you’re staying around Taisho or Sakuragawa’s west side.

Tojo Onsen is the Tsuruhashi option: around five minutes from the station, open 15:00–22:30 and closed Fridays. Its dry sauna, cold bath, electric bath, jets and reclining bath suit a short visit after dinner or a walk through the Korean market. The association’s current listing identifies it as the active sento in Tennoji Ward; older references to Taishoyu are not enough to establish that it is still open.

All six are listed at Osaka’s standard public-bath rate of ¥600 for adults, ¥200 for elementary-school children and ¥100 for younger children. That does not settle the cost of towels, sauna or other add-ons. Suehiro-yu explicitly includes its high-temperature steam sauna in the basic admission; don’t assume the same arrangement elsewhere.

None of these six has a current spring analysis in the cited directory. “Radium” in Radium Onsen’s name, the artificial carbonated baths at several shops, and Sakuragawa’s softened water are not proof of natural spring water. Tattoo policies are also not clearly stated in the current directory, so check with the individual bathhouse rather than relying on a general rule.

If you need a natural spring, look at Fudoyu Natural Onsen or one of the facilities in the Osaka day-use hot spring comparison. For the two dawn-opening baths, the choice is simple: Radium Onsen is the Shinsekai stop with the Tsutenkaku-facing outdoor bath; Healthy Onsen Sakuragawa is nearer Sakuragawa Station, open daily, and has dry and steam saunas. Both open at 06:00 and close at midnight.

For Namba and Kuromon, start with Suehiro-yu. For an after-midnight soak, Tateba has the widest window. And if the bath is only a short pause between sightseeing stops, choose the one nearest your next train rather than crossing town to collect facilities.
