Day-Use Onsen in Tsukioka: Bijo-no-Izumi, Hisagosou or Senkei?

Tsukioka’s emerald sulfur water is the common thread. The visit itself can range from a quick soak in the middle of the hot-spring town to a reserved half-day with a private dining room. There is no point comparing Senkei’s meal package as if it were an admission ticket: the price covers a different sort of day.

Bijo-no-Izumi for a simple soak

Bijo-no-Izumi is Tsukioka’s shared public bath, right in the hot-spring town. Admission is ¥600 for adults and ¥350 for children. It is the easiest fit for a short visit before or after a walk through the shops and footbath area. The bath is an indoor public facility, not a hotel spa with a long list of pools or a private resting room.

Its posted hours are 10 am–9:30 pm, with last entry at 8:30 pm. The facility closes Tuesdays and on the third Wednesday of each month. If you arrive by public transport, check the bus connection from JR Tsukioka Station; the station is not right beside the hot-spring street.

Hisagosou if you want a ryokan bath

Hisagosou’s day-use plan costs ¥1,000 for adults and ¥550 for children. It includes access to the ryokan bath and open-air bath, but the visit is short: 11 am–2 pm, with last entry at 1 pm. Payment is cash only, reservations are not accepted for the bath plan, and the inn recommends calling on the day because day use can be suspended on irregular dates and holiday periods. There is no dedicated day-use rest room; guests can use the lobby after bathing.

The plan describes the spring as 100% source water. That confirms the water source description, not every detail of how each tub is maintained. If you need a later arrival or a longer place to sit, Bijo-no-Izumi is more flexible.

Senkei for a booked meal and a half-day stay

Senkei’s day plan is designed around a Japanese kaiseki meal, bathing and a private dining room. Individual bookings start at three adults. Weekday lunch starts at ¥9,350 per person; weekend and holiday lunch starts at ¥9,900. Weekday dinner starts at ¥11,000, while weekend dinner is by inquiry. Call to reserve; the inn lists booking hours as 9 am–6 pm.

Senkei publishes details for its own spring, Shiratama-no-Yu: source temperature 43.8°C, flow rate 234 litres per minute and bathing temperature of 39–42°C. Those figures belong to Senkei’s spring and should not be applied to the other two baths.

Choose by the shape of your day

For a low-cost first soak, go to Bijo-no-Izumi. If a ryokan bath and an outdoor tub are the point, Hisagosou is the middle option—provided you can arrive before its 1 pm last entry. Senkei makes sense for a group that already wants lunch, a private place to rest and a more structured half-day.
