Kusatsu Onsen with Children: Choosing a Stay Around Baths, Age Rules and Activities
Compare Kusatsu ryokan for families by in-room baths, pools, activities and child amenities at Tokinoniwa, Hotel Village and Hotel Ichii.
The right Kusatsu stay depends on the children coming with you: their ages, comfort with shared bathing and how much walking they can manage. A large public bath is not automatically the easiest option for every family.
Check bathing arrangements before you book
In Gunma, children around seven and older cannot enter a public bath with an accompanying adult of another gender. Hotel Village states its own rule as children aged six and under only for the opposite-gender bath. If a parent expects to accompany a child across that age boundary, plan for separate bathing or choose a private option instead.
Tokinoniwa gives families the most direct private alternative: every guest room has a natural hot-spring bath, and three private outdoor baths are available on a first-come basis, usually for about 30 minutes. The private baths have tubs but no shower or washing area, so they do not replace a full wash. Children who are not comfortable in a shared bathing space can still use the room bath with their family.
Hotel Ichii is right beside Yubatake, which helps when young children tire during a walk. The hotel lists a limited number of loan items, including strollers, child toilet seats, step stools and bed-wetting sheets; ask ahead because these are first-come and limited. Its main hot springs are in gender-separated public baths, not in-room private baths.
When the hotel itself needs to keep everyone occupied
Hotel Village is a resort rather than just a place to sleep. Its facilities include a heated pool and bathing complex at Therme Therme, plus indoor and outdoor activities. Pool and bath opening days, seasonal hours and admission categories vary, so check the activity calendar for your exact dates rather than building the day around an old schedule. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a guardian at Therme Therme.
La Vista Kusatsu Hills is not a family alternative: it accepts guests aged 13 and over. That can be a useful filter when comparing adults-only properties, but it removes the hotel from most trips with younger children.

For infants who are not toilet trained, or children with specific bathing or dietary needs, contact the property directly about its current rules. Do not assume a shared bath permits swim nappies or that a meal plan can accommodate every allergy. Hotel Village’s site publishes a contact process for allergy requests, and Tokinoniwa explains its low-allergen meal request deadline and limitations.
