Shikisou or Yumoto Yunokawa? A Day-Use Onsen Comparison
Compare Yunokawa’s Shikisou and Yumoto Yunokawa for day bathing: hours, ¥700–¥900 entry, sauna access and bookable private baths.
Checked: September 27, 2026
Both inns sit in Yunokawa Onsen near Izumo Airport, and both accept day visitors. That is about where the similarities end. Shikisou keeps a much longer bathing schedule and has a sauna area; Yumoto Yunokawa charges more for admission, closes earlier and lets day visitors reserve a private bath. Decide around the time you can arrive and the kind of bath you actually want.
| Shikisou | Yumoto Yunokawa | |
|---|---|---|
| Adult day-use admission | ¥700 | ¥900 |
| Bathing hours | 6–9 am, then 10 am–10 pm; last entry 9:30 pm | 10 am–3:30 pm; last entry 3 pm |
| Sauna | Separate sauna area and pricing | Not the focus of the day-use offer |
| Private bath for day visitors | No comparable day-use booking is listed | 50 minutes: ¥2,500 per bath plus ¥900 per adult |
| Water-handling note | Spring water; facility wording also mentions circulation equipment | Described by the tourism association as 100% source-flow |
| Access from Shōbara Station | About a 20-minute walk | Current local listing says about 20 minutes; another listing says 15 |
Shikisou makes an early or late bath possible
Shikisou’s schedule is the main reason to choose it. Day visitors can bathe from 6 to 9 am, then return from 10 am until 10 pm; the last admission is listed at 9:30 pm. The one-hour morning break is for cleaning. Adult admission is ¥700, with separate rates for seniors and children.
That early opening can fit before Izumo Taisha or a full sightseeing day. The sauna is a separate purchase, not part of the standard bath ticket. Its plans and prices can change, so check the current fee before travelling specifically for a sauna session.
The spring-water wording needs a little care. Shikisou describes its Yunokawa water as source-flow, but the facility information also says circulation equipment is used for the indoor and outdoor baths. Those statements do not establish that every bath is entirely non-circulating. If that distinction matters to you, ask the property directly rather than treating the phrase “source-flow” as a complete description of each tub.
Yumoto Yunokawa is for a shorter visit or a private soak
Yumoto Yunokawa’s shorter window suits a midday visit. The inn may turn away day visitors at busy times, so call before travelling from the airport or connecting to a train.
| Day-use detail | Current listing |
|---|---|
| Shared bath | 10:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; last entry 3:00 p.m.; ¥900 per adult |
| Private bath | 50 minutes, 10:30 a.m.–3:20 p.m.; last reception 2:30 p.m. |
| Private-bath charge | ¥2,500 per bath, plus admission for each guest |
| Reservation | Opens at 9:00 a.m. the previous day |
Two adults pay ¥4,300 in total for a private session and admission. Reserve at opening time if you need a particular slot.
The tourism association and Shimane’s official visitor listing describe Yumoto’s spring as 100% source-flow. The published 50.5°C figure is the source temperature, not a promise that the bathing water is that hot. The inn’s ordinary bathing option remains a shared bath; a private booking is the route for a couple or family who want to bathe together.
The walk is similar, but neither is a station-front bath
Shikisou is around 20 minutes on foot from JR Shōbara Station. The current Izumo Tourism Association listing gives Yumoto Yunokawa about the same walk, while Shimane’s listing says 15 minutes. Plan for roughly 20 minutes to Yumoto, particularly if you have bags or weather is poor. Its airport drive is listed at about seven minutes; do not assume that means a public shuttle is available to day visitors.
The two inns are close within the wider Yunokawa area, but that does not make a three-stop walking circuit convenient. If you need a pickup or taxi, arrange it with the property or driver before setting out. Hikawa Bijin-no-yu is another public-bath option with evening hours; the broader Yunokawa day-use guide compares all three.
For a morning flight or a late return, Shikisou is usually easier to fit around the clock. Pick Yumoto Yunokawa when the private room or source-flow bath is the reason for going, and make the booking before you travel.
