Yunokawa Onsen Day Trip: Three Baths near Izumo Airport
Compare Hikawa Bijin-no-yu, Shikisou and Yumoto Yunokawa near Izumo Airport by hours, price and private-bath options. The three are not walkable between.
Checked: September 27, 2026
Yunokawa Onsen is in Hikawa, on the eastern side of Izumo City, near Izumo Airport. It is a spread-out hot-spring area rather than a compact street of bathhouses. For a day visit, the main choices are Hikawa Bijin-no-yu, Shikisou and Yumoto Yunokawa; each suits a different time of day and bathing style.
| Bath | Adult entry | Day-use hours | Best fit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hikawa Bijin-no-yu | ¥700 | 10 am–9:30 pm; last entry 8:30 pm | A straightforward public bath, especially later in the day | Closed Tuesdays and the last Wednesday of each month |
| Shikisou | ¥700 | 6–9 am; then 10 am–10 pm, last entry 9:30 pm | An early soak, outdoor bath or a separate sauna session | The bath closes for cleaning from 9–10 am; sauna is not included in bath entry |
| Yumoto Yunokawa | ¥900 | 10 am–3:30 pm; last entry 3 pm | A traditional ryokan bath and a private-bath booking | Shorter hours, irregular closure days and possible limits on walk-in use |
The evening option: Hikawa Bijin-no-yu
Hikawa Bijin-no-yu is the easiest of the three to fit after sightseeing. Izumo City says it reopened on July 28, 2026, after a closure that began on March 30. The current municipal schedule is 10 am to 9:30 pm, with last entry at 8:30 pm. Adult entry is ¥700; discounts apply to older adults, children and preschoolers. It closes every Tuesday and on the final Wednesday of the month, with occasional date-specific exceptions.
This is a public day-use bath rather than a ryokan visit. Its broad outdoor bath is the main draw. Older pages may still show the closure notice from earlier in 2026, so check the city’s current announcement if your visit is close to a closure date.
For an early start, Shikisou opens before breakfast
Shikisou works for an early soak before sightseeing. Bathing runs 6–9 a.m. and 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; last entry is 9:30 p.m. Adult admission is ¥700. The sauna is listed separately from bath admission, so check its current fee if that is the reason for your visit.
There is one detail worth keeping straight if spring-water handling is your deciding factor. Shikisou describes its bath as source-flow, while its published facility note also says circulation equipment is installed in the indoor and outdoor baths. The available wording does not establish that every tub is entirely non-circulating. For a clear 100% source-flow claim, Yumoto Yunokawa is the more explicit choice.
A shorter visit, or a private bath: Yumoto Yunokawa
Yumoto Yunokawa is a historic inn whose day-use window is much shorter than Shikisou’s. The Izumo Tourism Association currently lists bathing from 10 am to 3:30 pm, with last entry at 3 pm, and an adult admission price of ¥900. The inn can limit day visitors at certain times, so call ahead if you have a tight connection or are making a special trip for the bath.
| Private-bath detail | Current listing |
|---|---|
| Session | 50 minutes; 10:30 a.m.–3:20 p.m. |
| Bath charge | ¥2,500 per bath |
| Admission | ¥900 per adult, in addition to the bath charge |
| Two-adult minimum total | ¥4,300 |
| Reservations | Open at 9 a.m. on the previous day; last reception 2:30 p.m. |
Yumoto is the strongest option here if you want a private room for bathing or are specifically looking for a clearly described source-flow bath. Its shorter hours make it a poor last-minute evening stop.
Getting between the baths takes planning
These facilities are not lined up along a single station street. Shikisou is about a 20-minute walk from JR Shōbara Station. Current listings place Yumoto Yunokawa at around 20 minutes on foot as well, though another prefectural listing gives 15 minutes; allow the longer estimate, especially with bags or in wet weather. Hikawa Bijin-no-yu is farther from the station area, so a taxi or car is the simpler approach. Check each facility’s exact address before booking a ride.
Trying to visit all three in one day adds unnecessary transfers and can run into cleaning breaks or early last entry. A better fit is one bath chosen around your schedule: Shikisou before breakfast, Hikawa Bijin-no-yu in the evening, or Yumoto Yunokawa when a private bath is booked in advance. For a closer look at the two ryokan baths, see the Shikisou vs Yumoto Yunokawa comparison.
The tourism association also lists Souan as a meal-and-onsen option, with hours and price to be confirmed directly. Shōen and Haradaso are listed as not accepting day-use bathers. Ask the property before setting out if you are considering a different Yunokawa stay.
