Is Oyado Sansui Worth a Stay in Hirugami Onsen?
Oyado Sansui’s private outdoor spring baths are limited to five room plans. Shared and reservable baths are for overnight guests; day-use bathing isn’t offered.
Oyado Sansui makes the most sense when you want the inn to be part of your Hirugami Onsen trip. It has shared indoor and outdoor baths, three room categories with private outdoor baths, a garden and reservable private baths. The room-bath options are limited to specific categories, and the property does not accept day visitors for bathing alone.
If you plan to spend the afternoon or evening at the inn, a room with its own bath may be useful. If you will arrive late, leave early or spend most of the stay elsewhere, the extra room feature may get little use. Choose by your actual timetable, not by the property’s most attractive room photo.
Which room types have a private outdoor bath?
The current room list shows three categories with a private outdoor bath, all in the main building:

The inn states that these room baths use hot-spring water. The room list also includes other layouts without a private outdoor bath, so confirm the exact category and plan before paying. The step-free room is described as barrier-free, but guests with specific mobility needs should ask about measurements, thresholds and the route to the bath rather than relying on the label alone. Shared baths and reservable private baths
The shared bathing area has indoor and outdoor pools. The current facility schedule lists the large baths from 5 am to midnight, with cleaning from 9–10 am each day; on Thursdays, the listed cleaning period is 9 am–1 pm. Men’s and women’s areas switch between 5 and 9 am. The sauna is listed from 1–10 pm. Check the property’s notice again on arrival in case operating hours change.
Sansui also lists three reservable private baths, including one designed for step-free use. The published session is 45 minutes for ¥3,300 per room. Reservations are required. These baths are for overnight guests; the inn does not accept day-use bathing or a private-bath-only visit. Ask whether a slot is available before making it part of your plan.
What the spring information does—and does not—tell you
Hirugami’s tourism association describes the area’s water as an alkaline simple sulfur spring, with a source temperature of 47.4°C and pH 9.7. Sansui’s own facility page lists the same spring classification but gives a pH of 9.8. These are area- and property-level descriptions; they are not readings for each individual pool or a promise of a particular bathing temperature.
The inn says the private outdoor baths in the room categories above use hot-spring water. Its public page does not give a fixed temperature for each room bath, so do not treat the source temperature as the temperature you will bathe in. The local page uses “beauty spring” as a tourism label; it is not a medical claim about what the water will do for an individual’s skin.
How to make the overnight stay count
Arrive with enough time to leave your bags, walk by the Achi River or through the onsen area, check in and use a bath before dinner. If you have booked a night-sky activity in the wider area, check its meeting point and schedule before choosing dinner or a private-bath slot. Weather and visibility can change, so do not treat a promotional star photograph as a guaranteed view from your room.
The next morning, use the shared bath or your room bath before breakfast or checkout. If you plan to continue to a seasonal flower display or another village activity, check its dates separately and arrange luggage storage or onward transport with the relevant provider. The goal is to leave time for the property’s facilities rather than compress the stay into a late check-in and early departure.
Transport is part of the room decision
Hirugami Onsen does not have a rail station. The area is served by highway buses and reservation-based transfers; the current tourist association lists a direct Matsumoto service for overnight guests, with advance booking conditions. Sansui also describes guest pick-ups from some stops, including scheduled afternoon arrangements from Iida or Tenryukyo. Service days, times and stops can change. Check the official access information for your travel date and ask Sansui whether your chosen arrival stop is covered by its transfer arrangements.
If you are driving, Sansui’s access page lists free parking. In winter, confirm road conditions and allow for the route and daylight; map distance alone is not a useful measure of the final leg in a mountain area.

The strongest scores are for setting, comfort and bath options. Access is more modest because Hirugami has no railway station and bus or transfer arrangements need to match the date. The upkeep score reflects the available information and impressions; it is not a water-quality test or hygiene inspection.
When to choose a simpler room—or a day-use bath elsewhere
Consider a standard room if you expect to spend the afternoon away, have a short overnight stop or will leave soon after breakfast. The inn’s private bath is easiest to justify when you expect to use the room and bathing facilities more than once.
If you only want one short soak in Achi Village, look at facilities that explicitly accept day visitors instead. Sansui’s own page says bathing-only day visits are not available, so do not plan to use its shared or private baths without an overnight booking.
